🌿Intro to Tea Blending Demonstration🌿
Join us on June 20th from 1:00 PM–2:30 PM for a complimentary introduction to tea blending led by our Assistant Manager, Eliza.

This in-store demonstration will cover the fundamentals of creating your own intentional herbal tea blends, including how to select and combine herbs for flavor, aroma, and wellness goals.

Eliza brings more than five years of experience crafting custom herbal blends for small apothecaries throughout Washington. Her passion for plant-based wellness began while working on a small farm in North Carolina, where herbs and plants were an integral part of supporting balance and well-being.

Whether you’re new to herbal teas or looking to expand your knowledge, this hands-on session is a wonderful opportunity to learn the art and purpose of tea blending.

Tulsi or Holy Basil, is an herbaceous member of the mint family with purple stems and leaves that mature into a magenta color. Holy Basil has been revered throughout India for thousands of years. Ayurvedic texts describe Holy Basil as a pillar of holistic herbal medicine and a goddess incarnated in plant form (the mother medicine of nature). Today, Holy Basil remains one of the most cherished of India’s sacred plants. 
We have three different varieties of Tulsi/Holy Basil available at Mountain Rose Herb’s Seattle Mercantile, including Krishna, Rama, and Vana. ✨🌱✨

The Krishna variety is named after the beloved blue-skinned Hindu god. 🦋

Historically, Krishna Tulsi has been a significant herb in Ayurvedic medicine and is revered as a sacred plant in India. Krishna Tulsi is commonly cultivated near temples and private homes. It has a peppery, crisp taste and is typically drunk as tulsi tea. Rama Tulsi is known for its mellow flavor, whereas Vana Tulsi is a wild variety that is known for its complex fragrance, which is similar to that of clove.🌿

Essential Oil Spotlight: Litsea cubeba! 🌸🌿
Otherwise known as May Chang, Litsea cubeba is a sweet and fruity essential oil with fresh lemony notes. It is a perennial deciduous shrub with small round fragrant fruits that belongs to the family Lauraceae, which also includes bay laurel and cinnamon. Litsea cubeba grows prolifically in southern China.

Traditionally, Litsea cubeba has been used in skincare formulations and for perfumery due to its beautiful light and fresh scent that is similar to lemongrass. It blends well with basil, grapefruit, juniper, or thyme. If you are feeling inspired to make your own perfume that is perfect for the warmer months or are looking for a fresh scent for your aromatherapy diffuser, consider giving Litsea cubeba essential oil a try!
