Saturday has arrived! Yay, weekend fun has begun! Since we have been posting these nature photos of flowers, shrubs, and gardens (all pics that we have taken ourselves), we cannot get over the quantity of different species that surround us. The spring-summer-fall seasons especially abound with beauty. It is glorious! It Taking it in and looking at the details of design, color, and texture grounds is in the moment where we think only of what is before us. Sometimes we just need to slow down to take it in-the goodness is right there waiting for us! Walking around outdoors is like walking through an endless art gallery of God’s tableaux.

Tonight at 7 pm EST, Stinky Boy Detergent recipe video aired. Whether the powdered format or liquid version that Lisa mixes up, Stinky Boy Detergent has been a super popular video each time she makes it and we post because people ask for it. Why? Because it is a laundry detergent that gets the job done, especially if you have tough laundry.

Baby Boy thinks this stuff is magic because he has witnessed soiled athletic and farming clothing come clean. On top of that, odours are gone and that, my friends is a big challenge to concur!

Story behind it? The recipe was handed around amongst parents of sports kids back when and has been used here non stop ever since. As for the most popular questions about it…1. Yes, it is used in this farmhouse on regular laundry too. 2. You would have to ask your own washer specialist if it is safe for your type of machine, especially top loading. 3. The quantity used per load is the same as regular detergent.

Janet was excited to try Chef Jess’s two-time award-winning recipe for Brown Bread so sought her out at a local farmers’s market. (Chef Jess was our guest this summer with tips on making various sourdough bread recipes.) Brown Bread tastes like grandma’s, for sure- so dense and moist, with the right hint of sweet. Great job, Jess!

Lisa was unfamiliar with this meaning of brown bread.

‘Brown Bread’ as the term is used referring to a specific recipe rather than the color of a whole wheat bread, for example, dates back to the 1830s to New England and eastern Canada. Settlers used molasses from the Caribbean to sweeten bread as it was cheaper in that region than granulated sugar and molasses stored well. Molasses is what colors the bread brown. Also, oatmeal as a grain was cheaper then than wheat. Brown Bread then was steamed during the process as traditional ovens were less available.

Today, Brown Bread is exciting to get your hands on. Our grandmothers made it and it is a recipe to pass down and not be lost!

For where you sit, is this kind of brown bread made? Is it one you have heard of?
