Before I was a wedding florist, I was a television producer with a camera and a garden full of flowers. I started growing anything colorful, unusual or interesting. And somewhere along the way, I started arranging and photographing whatever was blooming.

Looking back at these early arrangements, I can see exactly where my design style came from.

The unexpected color combinations. The movement. The whimsy. The flowers that look like they belong in a garden rather than a perfectly arranged vase.

I wasn’t following wedding trends or designing for clients. I was just experimenting, creating and making art with flowers I grew myself.

And honestly, I still design the same way today. What started in my backyard in Washington , DC & Severna Park eventually became Romenta Plants, where I now get to bring that same garden-inspired creativity to weddings throughout Maryland.

The weddings we love designing most? The ones where couples aren’t afraid to make the flowers part of the experience. Whether it’s embracing a little color, creating one unforgettable floral installation, or finding clever ways to repurpose ceremony flowers at the reception, there are so many ways to make your wedding feel personal without putting flowers absolutely everywhere.

My favorite advice? Choose the floral moments that matter most to you, and let your florist get creative! At Romenta Plants, we specialize in garden-inspired wedding flowers with lots of movement, texture and seasonal blooms. No two weddings should look exactly alike.

I had so much fun with this wedding. Making the calla Lilly & orchid bridal purse was a highlight for sure. We did a mix and match of regular compote centerpieces & ikebana style to add variety. Rehearsal dinner flowers were all white. Corsages were super simple & elegant orchid cuffs. I love getting creative with the touches of blue so we used tweedia, hydrangeas, delphinium and forget me nots. I particularly loved the bush ivy trailing out the side of the reception compotes.

Florist moms, I need your advice!! I’m pregnant with baby number 2, due in January, and I’m at a bit of a crossroads with my floral business.

I am almost wrapped up with my wedding season, and normally I’d be hustling to fill my calendar for next year. But between being pregnant, running my business and raising a 4-year-old, I’m barely keeping up with what’s already on my plate.

Part of why I love being self-employed is the flexibility to be home with my kid. But the reality is, there’s no paid maternity leave when you own your own business. And in the wedding industry, you’re often booking work a year before you actually do it. When I had my son, I was just starting Romenta Plants. I spent so much of those early years trying to grow the business while figuring out motherhood. This time, I really want to slow down and be present with my baby.

But I also don’t want to lose the momentum I’ve worked so hard to build. So, florist moms, what did you do? Did you take a season off? Book fewer weddings? Hire help? Keep going as usual? And looking back, would you do anything differently?

I’d genuinely love to hear your experiences. I know there are so many women in this industry balancing motherhood and business ownership, and I could really use some perspective. ❤️

I often hear brides say, “We’re getting married in a church, so we want to keep the flowers pretty minimal.” But I LOVE what a larger floral installation can do in a church.

For this ceremony, we created two garden-inspired floral pillars filled with deep reds, burgundy, white blooms and lots of foliage. We also tied greenery along the pews to carry that garden feeling down the aisle.

The flowers really dressed up the church without taking away from the beauty of the space itself. And the best part? We repurposed both floral pillars at the reception, placing them on either side of the sweetheart table.

Two completely different settings, one floral investment. A great way to make the most of the bride’s budget while still having those big floral moments.
