Did you know the “Ike Dollar” was only minted from 1971–1978?
The Eisenhower Dollar was created to honor President Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower — Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during World War II and later the 34th President of the United States.
But there’s another interesting detail hidden on the coin…
The eagle design on the back was actually inspired by the Apollo 11 mission insignia, commemorating America’s historic moon landing 🌙
Though rarely seen in circulation today, these large dollar coins remain a nostalgic piece of Americana and a favorite among collectors.
This Memorial Day Weekend, we’ll be giving away FREE Ike Dollars with qualifying purchases while supplies last at Green Olde Deal Antique Mall. This Saturday-Monday.
You never know what piece of history you’ll take home next !
