Happy 100th Birthday to the University of Pittsburgh’s iconic Cathedral of Learning! University of Pittsburgh

Standing 535 feet tall, this 42-story Revival is not just the heart of Pitt’s , but an enduring symbol of , , and heritage.

At the very core of the Cathedral’s legacy are the world-renowned Nationality Rooms. These 31 working classrooms pay homage to the vibrant cultural fabric and immigrant communities that built , each meticulously designed to represent a specific country.

We are immensely proud of AE Works’ role in preserving and expanding this living history through our work on three Nationality Rooms:

✔️ (Pictured) Philippine Nationality Room: Crafted to mirror a traditional Bahay na Bato (house of stone), featuring exquisite Capiz shell window panels, intricate woodwork, and design motifs celebrating traditional Filipino craftsmanship.

✔️Israel Nationality Room: Modeled after a 6th-century Byzantine-era synagogue, showcasing rich limestone accents, authentic floor mosaics, and scholarly elements honoring centuries of intellectual tradition.

✔️Finnish Nationality Room: Inspired by an 18th-century Tupa (wooden farmhouse), highlighting minimalist Nordic architecture, handcrafted timber framing, and warm, functional design tailored for collaborative learning.

Here’s to a century of history, innovation, global culture and the next 100 years!
