If you had asked me five years ago whether I’d enjoy teaching kids basket weaving, I would’ve laughed and said, “Heck no.”
But life has a funny way of revealing what you didn’t know you needed.

This week at 4‑H camp, I watched a room full of kids go from unsure hands and tangled weavers to bright eyes, steady focus, and that spark of I did it.
And let me tell you—there is nothing more rewarding.

Seeing their smiles at the end, the pride in their work, the way they hold up their finished baskets like treasures they created with their own two hands… it’s priceless. Moments like that remind me why I weave, why I teach, and why passing this craft on matters.

And who knows—maybe one of those kids will carry the tradition forward, keep the basket alive, and one day become an even greater artisan than I am.
If I can inspire just one, then every hour, every lesson, every soaked reed is worth it.

Here’s to the next generation of makers, dreamers, and weavers. 🧺✨

Spring is singing in the mountains and about to give way unto summer, and what better companion than this Cherokee Picnic Basket, woven by my hands and now featured by Tamarack Marketplace.
Grateful to see my work shining at Tamarack—West Virginia’s home for the best of our makers.

🌧💐 April Showers- Americana Flowers 💐🌧

April showers really did their work this year… because May showed up with flowers — and I sure brought the baskets.

Meet my newest little family of Americana pieces:
Large Market • Small Market • Berry Buckets
Each one woven with intention, trimmed in blooms, and ready to carry the colors and stories of the season.

There’s something magical about watching these baskets come to life outdoors — the way the floral patterns glow against the natural weave, the way the handles rise like little arches of promise. They feel like May mornings, like picnics waiting to happen, like porch gatherings and farmer’s market strolls.

Whether you’re gathering berries, hauling market treasures, or simply decorating your home with a touch of handmade heritage, these baskets bring a whisper of spring and a whole lot of Americana charm.

The Shape of a Story Remembered

Some pieces don’t just catch the eye — they call to something older in us. This Choctaw‑style pouch is one of those rare creations, shaped in a form once carried along forest paths, riverbanks, and trading routes by the Choctaw people. These pouches held medicinal herbs, seeds, small tools, and personal treasures — the quiet necessities of daily life.

The triangular body feels like a nod to ancient landscapes, a shape both functional and symbolic. The woven ring handle rises above it like a sun-circle, easy to slip the hand through, easy to hang where it can be admired.

Whether displayed on a wall or carried as a companion, this pouch holds more than objects. It holds lineage, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of a tradition that still speaks today.

Where Beauty Rises From What Was Lost

This egg basket is one you truly have to see in person. No photo can capture the way its handle flows like water across the opening and down the back—smooth in some places, wild in others, as if the river never quite let go of it.

That gnarly piece of driftwood carries a story all its own. Did it struggle in its early years, fighting for space among stronger trunks? Did storms carve its curves long before the current ever touched it? Eventually, life shifted. The branch fell. The river claimed it. And the long journey began.

But even in death, it was not finished.

Its scars became beauty. Its twists became purpose. What once seemed discarded now crowns an extraordinary egg basket, giving it shape, story, and soul.

There is a quiet truth woven into this piece:
Sometimes what dies becomes the very thing that brings new life.

And this basket is living proof.

💦🫶 Rescued by the hands that Create 🫶💦

This handle was once part of a tall, majestic tree—rooted, steady, and lifted toward the sky. Then life shifted. Through life’s circumstances and the pull of water and current, it was carried far from where it began. By the time it washed onto the riverbank, its story seemed nearly over.

But endings are rarely what they appear to be.

The one who weaves and creates saw more than weathering and wear. She saw potential. She saw what could be. In her hands, this forgotten piece of driftwood rose again—refined, honored, and given new life as the handle of a beautiful basket.

What the river carried away, the Weaver repurposed.
What looked finished was only waiting for its next chapter.

☀️ Eyes of the Noonday Sun ☀️

The Noonday Sun Tote has officially taken its place at the Tamarack Marketplace gallery — a piece that seems to hold its own quiet consciousness.

Woven in warm, sunlit tones, this tote is crowned with an antler discs that looks like a pair of knowing eyes. There’s a presence in it, a watchfulness, as if the basket remembers the hands that shaped it and the stories it’s meant to carry forward.

I dropped this beauty off today along with many other handcrafted baskets, each one ready to meet new hands and new homes among the incredible work of West Virginia artisans.

If you’re passing through southern West Virginia, stop by the gallery at Tamarack and let this one look back at you. It has a way of choosing its people.

Kernersville News… what an honor to see my work and my little corner of heritage featured in its pages.

Kernersville, you made this celebration unforgettable. Meeting the Daughters of the American Revolution was such a meaningful moment—women who understand the power of lineage, story, and the hands that came before us. I loved catching up with faithful customers, hearing how my baskets have found their way into your homes and traditions.

The day flowed beautifully from the historic village to the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex, where concerts filled the evening and the drone show lit the sky in the most magical way.

Thank you, Kernersville, for your continued support of my handcrafted baskets. It is always a joy to set up, share my work, and be part of your celebration!

🐦🧺 When Spring Whispers Love 🧺🐦

Spring in the mountains feels like a secret the earth whispers awake. Wildflowers scatter across the hillsides, birds return with their bright songs, and baby fawns dance through the meadows as if the world has just begun again.

It’s the perfect season to slip away with your beloved, find a wide‑armed tree, and linger over a romantic picnic in the soft mountain light. And for a moment like that, this girly, pink‑and‑dark‑chocolate Cherokee picnic basket feels made for the story. A brand‑new color pairing for me—feminine, playful, and full of charm. The poplar lid lifts easily, the red fox fur with hackle feathers adds a touch of wild elegance, like the forest offering its own blessing.

A basket for romance, a season for renewal, and a memory waiting to be made.

🌾 THE CHIEF’S PATH 🌾

My newest basket carries a pattern known as the Chief’s Path—a trail of zigzags and diamonds that echoes the way a true leader moves through the world. Not in straight lines, but with awareness, courage, and a willingness to walk ahead so others can follow safely.

In Cherokee tradition, these shapes speak of lightning, clarity, protection, and spiritual movement. Woven together, they become a path of responsibility and vision.

As I worked, it felt less like creating a pattern and more like honoring a teaching—one about leading with heart, remembering where we come from, and shaping the way forward.

This basket carries that story.

A path for the ones who came before.
A path for the ones who will come after.
A path for anyone learning to lead with heart.

Honored to share this piece with you.
