Hi there!
Since the shop has been on a winter break I thought this would be a good moment to reintroduce myself!
My name is Rachel, owner & maker of Wood Chipped. I have two lovely little ladies whom I revolve my shop & life schedule around. It's been an absolute privilege having that flexibility with them amidst only having them half time, and I wouldn't trade these last 2 years of tiny home, shop hustle life for anything because of that.
I created this shop with the intention of creating one of a kind, sustainable, non toxic heirloom pieces- hand milled from drought or fire damaged Sierra Nevada lumber, and supporting the land and community in the process.
My vision is to reduce fossil fuels in our forests and mega-wildfire risk, create a fire-fund to support locals who have been affected by those fires, and give back to our local Indigenous land stewards. All the while mindfully making something meaningful
As a board member of who's non-profit program Rebuild Our Sierra has taught me so much about the lengthy rebuilding process and needs of wildfire survivors, my volunteer & donation efforts have been a pivotal part of my business.
My first year, I made a portion of purchases go towards Rebuild Our Sierra, along with planting trees through
Since then, the realities of juggling and starting a small business without a stable side income or partner to support me has halted those efforts and required a pivot.
Though my business plan to give back 10% of profits still stands, supporting my girls and attempting to move forward in life has had to take the front seat.
My hope is to continue building my credit and shop portfolio while seeking outside funding, going back to school for integrative health, and finally trying to shift this business from a hobby to a legitimate income and passion.
Amidst other passions of mine, I am an herbalist and writer, song writer and nature enthusiast.
I'm sporadic in my actual shop content on here, but when I'm back in the sawdust, I promise you won't regret following along ð
Thanks to all of you who support me even during the rest cycles, believe in my vision and value this space!
