This wall started on July 10th, at least that was the first day paint happened. It actually started way back in November of last year where I met Amelia and Adam at a craft show.
They asked me and a friend if we’d be interested in painting their wall in the summer. And of course, just coming off the high of a previous mural, we jumped on the idea.
Spring rolled around and I reached back out to them seeing if this was still something they were interested in. Meetings were had, artwork mock ups were made. I even made contracts and invoices. I really challenged myself.
This wall was meant to be a tag team project but ended up being just me.
I could have simplified the design or worked something else out all together but I was so determined to get a piece of my art that I truly enjoyed on a high traffic wall in Sheboygan.
So I start, friends and my lovely fiancé helped and sometimes just hung out to keep me motivated.
But at last, almost 3 months later, she is done!
Now I have a million reasons why this took so long. I would have 100% preferred to get this done by the end of August, maybe mid September. But life 🤷🏽♀️ and thankfully, The Obsidian Owl owners are such amazing and understanding people, that they stuck with me as I got the last few sessions done.
I have learned so much from this mural. I learned that weather sucks. I had maybe 3 days of perfect weather where I wasn’t freezing or sweating to death.
I also learned patience within myself. So many times I looked at this wall and wanted to scream and throw paint at it. (I’m glad I didn’t haha)
I also learned the importance of planning and changing that plan about 274 times.
I wanna be super real. I am not a muralist. I would love to be! I would love the opportunity to do more and participate in big projects like this. But there’s a learning curve here that I was only kind of ready for.
But there is nothing about this experience that I regret. Looking at my final piece is so absolutely amazing and unreal. I have a 10’x10’ piece of me in town for 100s of not 1,000s to see! That’s crazy!!!
Thank you so much Amelia and Adam (owners of The Obsidian Owl) for this opportunity, for your patience, and for the waters!
