Some Quiet Wild creatures arrive gentle… and still manage to shake the whole deck.

Akyra has been a favorite since the moment she first appeared — long before the Quiet Wild had a name, long before the deck had a direction, long before I knew what this project would become.

Her original painting sold years ago.
Gone.
In someone else’s home.
A one‑of‑a‑kind piece that will never exist again.

And yet she’s already one of the most loved cards in the entire Quiet Wild.

People connect to her instantly — not because she’s cute, but because her story hits a nerve. Akyra is the reminder that you can come from hurt, from chaos, from being underestimated and undervalued… and still choose gentleness without losing your strength.

She’s the Quiet Wild truth that says:

Your past is not your measure.
Your courage is.

Every time this card gets traction, the value of that original painting rises — because Akyra isn’t just a card. She’s a survivor. A symbol. A favorite for a reason.

She can be the reminder you need in the morning to face a tough day,
the gentle forgiveness you reach for when something goes unexpectedly wrong,
the strength you borrow when you don’t think you can carry on.

She is the glimmer of hope at the beginning —
standing there with the wonder of the world at her paws —
but she’s not naïve.

Akyra has seen the dirt, the grit, the lies, and the hurt…
and still she pushes on.
She knows how sharp life can get.

She can be the reminder that not all beginnings are easy — some are hard.
But even the hardest starts are MORE than never starting at all.

Quick life update, I had a health scare yesterday that landed me in the E.R., turned out to be a severe migraine needing ongoing treatment. I'm okay, but there may be days I need to step back from posting or commissions while I get this managed. I still have more stories to tell from The Quiet Wild and more art to share with the world, it just may take a bit longer than my original timeline. Thanks for understanding.

Well out in the world the Quiet Wild goes. If your on the hunt for these cards you can seek out locations on 8th st in Sheboygan, and The Obsidian Owl on Erie Ave... Only 1 is in plain sight, and probably won't be for long. Happy Hunting!

Something stirred in Sheboygan this morning.
Six Quiet Wild cards slipped into the city like small spells—resting in quiet places, waiting for the right hands. They aren’t hard to find… but they won’t call out loudly.
Walk slowly. Notice the edges of things.
If a card finds you, consider it a sign you were meant to cross paths today.Happy seeking, wanderers!

This lily is another card that took a heavy edit. While the image was lovely and Lilies will always make me think of that trip to Madison with Mom, this card had to speak to more than just a fond memory. It needed to speak of the attraction to being in the dark and being broken. Of just wanting to not try to make anything better. To wanting to give up, because you know you're likely going to fail. If your deeply hurt, everything feels impossible, and the light of hope feels impossibly exposing as well as harsh and unsafe. But if you never try it will always be you alone in the darkness, shattered in your pain. Be brave enough to muster the strength and turn towards the light of hope. It doesn't have to be forever, you don't have to interact, but allow yourself the moment of softness and forgiveness to perhaps gain some perspective.

If it's one thing that I find myself telling people often it's that you can't think clearly when you are emotional. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's part of the human condition. Too often people who bottle their emotions find their emotions are out of control when they need the most control. A healthy thing to do would be to give yourself a safe space and go through those emotions rather than bottling them. You will thank yourself for it.

Creating this deck has really drawn out a new way of looking at my art and photography. And while the final card designs are coming along much more swiftly that I would have originally thought some of them are going to wind up changing the original paintings. I always thought there was too much negative space in this piece. Forcing it into a square format made me reconsider the background options. And I honestly want to redo the background on the original now...

This card didn’t stay where it started — and honestly, neither do we.
It began as a simple photo. Then it shifted. It didn’t quite fit. It wandered through versions that weren’t ‘home.’

And somewhere along the way, it found the place that felt true.
Not the original ground… but the right ground.

We all go through that.
Jobs change. Relationships shift. Places we thought were permanent turn temporary.
We lose things. We outgrow things. We rebuild.

But who we are — the part that’s real — stays.

‘The ground beneath your feet may change.
Who you are does not.’

This is the Guardian of the Displaced.
A reminder that even when life moves you, you don’t lose yourself.
