A portion of my personal collection of Northern
Indiana Amish quilts will be installed in the Goshen College (my Alma Mater) Library Gallery next week. I’ve worked very hard the past 8 weeks preparing and am happy to see them on their way for installation! This may very well be my last exhibit. After 50 years in this quilt caretaker adventure it’s time to prepare for the next caretakers. I’m affirming that whatever the outcome, it will evolve perfectly. See next post for more exhibit details.

The Sweetest Valentines showed up in the shop today! Faith and Bill, have to be crowned Valentine’s Day Queen and King at Rebecca Haarer Arts and Antiques. This devoted (to each other) couple still makes the nearly 2 hr trip to shop Rebecca’s and Fishers Antiques next door. This WARMER day, made it possible to make a LOVEly trip today. They’re one of my longest-time visitors. This famous 90+ year old friend is also the first certified woman auctioneer in Indiana! They’re some of my favorite humans ♥️♥️🌿 Seeing them made my ♥️ day! Snow is melting and so is my ♥️.

⭐️Thanks to each one of you for stopping by the shop’s 54th Birthday post yesterday. ⭐️Seeing your names, reading your memories and greetings sure brought back lots of good memories and I wish I could adequately express my gratitude to each and everyone of you personally as we’ve shared “Shipshewana time” together. ⭐️Wishing you all a good remaining winter (or summer, down under!) and wellness, happiness and peace.

The shop is having a birthday today!
54 years ago today, Feb. 2, 1972, Mom and Dad opened Haarer's Quaint Shop. The first month or so, they sold mostly eggs from their chicken buisness along with antiques. We've gotten pretty good use out of these old buildings...some of Shipshewana's earliest! 1972 was pre-tourism days...there were no gift shops or quilt shops at that time in Shipshewana! I purchased the middle and north buildings from them 20 some years ago, Fisher’s Antiques purchased the south building. 7 years ago I sold the north building to a a family relative, Jesse who is the wonderful potter at Riverwood Pottery. My mother continued working in the store with me till her death in Sept of 2011. My father continued to buy and sell antiques thru my store as a hobby nearly till his passing at age 94, in March of 2022.

OLD CHRISTMAS is an old Amish tradition that continues today. If you are planning on visiting Shipshewana Jan 6, call ahead today to see if the Amish business you hope to visit will be open; Most, likely not. Even factories with a large population of Amish employees, close for the day. It is a time for families to gather together, not so much a religious church day.
(Old Christmas on Jan 6 is also the twelfth day of Christmas as well as Epiphany. Epiphany commentates the arrival of the wisemen with their gifts.

🌿🌟Greetings on this New Year’s Eve🌟🌿

🌟This afternoon, before turning off the lights and locking the shop door, I completed what has become a year-end shop ritual; I walked the century old wood floors praying a prayer of gratitude and well being for each of you whose footsteps have walked the floor here this year, or who’s phone calls, messages, thoughts, cards and prayers have come here. Your presence has been a blessing to me in so many ways, especially this year as my year’s journey somewhat resembles a well worn crazy quilt! I have discovered that 1) even when life isn’t stable; love is! Prayer is! Kindness is. Moments are. 2) Everyone has a story, a journey, an inner light and life adventure. Amazing things happen in my shop as stories are exchanged verbally or silently. I’m just so grateful to have been given more time to meet the world and you, and to experience your story, your light, and our collective creativity.

🌟 I pray a blessing on all who have walked this old wooden floor in person or via love or thoughts sent here. therefore, a Blessing of the Footsteps on the floor this year and also on all former 53 years! May you, we all, “walk in beauty” into the New Year! Love is the greatest Gift! Shine On! 🌟🌟🌟

Hours are sketchy this week at Rebecca Haarer Arts & Antiques due to a combo of weather, New Year’s Day , ongoing family Christmas, a dear neighbor’s funeral and an out of my control rescheduled necessary medical appointment!

30 Tuesday: 2:30-4:00
31 Wed: 12-3
Closed New Year’s Day
2 Fri: 2-5
3 Sat: 12-2

Sorry about this, but as they say, ‘Tis the season and, life happens. And, I don’t know about you, but at this phase of my life and business, the coziness of home comfort on these snowy days is pretty darn nice, especially when accompanied by a cup of hot chocolate and a quilt.

It’s snowing gently and beautifully in Shipshewana as I write this but thankfully the brutal day is behind us.

Take heart, if you still wish to shop the after Christmas ornament sale. We were very busy last week! Thanks to all who showed up the days after Christmas!🎄! The store was packed at times and it was great to see you. As with all sales, know that of course there are many designs sold out, YET, fun choices remain!
Sale ends the first weekend in February which is Pajama Sale Saturday!

I will post hours weekly or call/text ahead to set up a for-sure shopping date!
