Olson House is the vision of Teresa Olson, a Milwaukee interior designer, former "record store girl" and storyteller. A tribute to her family and Scandinavian heritage, both from her fiercely Norwegian grandfather on her father's side, and Finnish immigrant grandmother on her mother's side. Olson House will feature locally crafted furniture, home decor & artwork that will be curated in a lovely storefront on bustling Oakland Avenue in Shorewood, WI.

Reflections of a shop keeper while the world is in a state… I’m in the throes of year-end paperwork, and trying to plan the coming year, while in a new year marketing challenge for reflector business owners (human design - iykyk). Im always exhausted every January, and I honestly have a somewhat spicy take about content creation. Which might be seen as failing this marketing challenge about visibility, as this is my first post this year.
I’m feeling like I have absolutely zero interest in posting, especially feeding in to the meta system. I just want to find a “check this box if you’re human” social media platform, or have real in person conversations. I don’t want to swim through the slop of what the AI regurgitated inauthentic digital world feels like to me these days. I want to give hugs and wrap up in blankets, and and most days not dig through my phone to find a cute photo to use or make a video, and write something clever - it all sounds exhausting. But, today, I felt inspired by some images from last year, and felt like sharing them, as a reminder of the beauty in the little things. Will they even be seen by anyone? If you found this post, thank you for being a part of this adventure!
As someone who has used AI to help me write a couple posts in the past (usually to get inspiration but disliking what they try to feed me), it’s almost like I now see them everywhere in my feeds and they feel lacking in humanity. Not sharing at all is the opposite of the marketing that I should be doing, and not great for my shop sales, especially as a product based tangible goods business. I hope to shake this funk soon, and I am in awe of anyone, finding your voice in the digital world right now. Everything is so loud right now, and there’s so much to be loud and outraged about. But I’m observing, and calibrating. I see each of you, and you’re amazing. I’m hoping to find collaborators for community activation and support, and at this moment, I’m all about personal conversations (and dreaming of naps and the old social media where it was more people, less bots)! How are you doing? It’s been a while since I’ve added to the good old Instagram grid, but not sure if anyone even sees our posts anymore?
I want to thank everyone who supported local shops, makers, and other small businesses last weekend and beyond. The crazy snow storm made for a rough weekend for this corner of the world, but we are keeping it cozy and festive for you Nordic style, all month long! Still dealing with shipping delays and other fun, but as soon as we get our order of linens and blankets from Finland, we will be celebrating for reals!

2 weeks from tomorrow, we are hosting one of our favorite artists, Emma Daisy! She’s been so busy painting murals all over the country, including this one she’s working on in NYC. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to have her back in the shop on Nov 4, celebrating with an artist reception from 4-8 pm.
Hope you can make it, Beasts & Blooms is gonna be rad!

How are you doing? Raise your hand if you’re a bit sleepy/stressed/hanging on in the chaos/doing your best 👋
It’s been a wild and tiring month, and the very real stories I’m hearing from friends in the Chicago area, and even around here got me nervous for humanity. But it’s people like the fly interns who are willing to hang out with me (okay, yes, I pay them, haha) that make this fight worth punching up for.
These 3 have been so instrumental in the prep for the upcoming Mike Kasun art show we have this Friday.
I could wax on about humanity, but if you’ve read this far, I’m sure you also believe that no citizen should be harassed because they may not look like what the orange dude in charge wants everyone to be. But you know what? Our uniquenesses are what keep this place interesting, and I am 10 toes on that.
