✨Are upper cabinets dying, or am I just questioning everything? 😂

As an interior designer, I look at kitchens a little differently. One thing I'm questioning is whether we really need upper cabinets everywhere.

I love the open feel of a kitchen with beautiful stone, statement tile, and breathing room instead of wall-to-wall cabinetry.

But here's the catch: I have a tiny kitchen, and I'm seriously considering skipping upper cabinets altogether. My plan? Smart drawers and one full wall of closed cabinetry with the refrigerator built in.

The one thing I can't quite get past is the glassware. 🤔 Can I really retrain myself to keep my glasses in a drawer instead of reaching overhead?

I know upper cabinets are practical, and sometimes every inch of storage matters. But is maximizing storage always worth sacrificing that open feeling?

Tell me: Would you ditch the uppers or never give them up? And if you've gone without them, do you regret it?

✨ If you've noticed I've been a little quieter around here lately, there's a reason.

I've been spending a lot of my time expanding my knowledge and working toward my degree. I'm studying Interior Design while also continuing to build my business—and between classes, assignments and, everyday life, I've had to divide my time a little differently.

That has meant less time creating and posting and honestly, I've missed it.

But while I've been quieter here, I've also been investing in myself, learning, growing, and expanding my knowledge and, I'm excited to bring what I'm learning back into the work I do here.

I'm still dreaming, designing and creating.
I haven't and I'm not going anywhere. ❤️

Just navigating a really full season and trying to balance the things I'm passionate about.

Thank you for sticking around, supporting my business, and following along through all the different seasons.

RENTING? Can you still get that designer look?
Of course you can!

You don’t have to own the space to make it feel like you.

If you’re renting, you may be stuck with the paint, tile, vanity, or builder-grade finishes—but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with the vibe.

A few intentional changes can completely shift how your bathroom feels:

✨ Take the shower curtain up
✨ Swap the basic bath mat for a runner
✨ Choose art that feels like your home, not “bathroom decor”
✨ Add beautiful, functional storage
✨ Layer in softer, warmer lighting
✨ Finish with accessories that bring personality

The goal isn’t to make a rental look expensive. It’s to make it feel intentional, comfortable, and designed.

Because good design isn’t always about what you can change—it’s about knowing what to do with what you have.

✨ Good taste doesn’t have to be universally understood.

In fact, some of the most interesting homes are the ones that aren’t.

They have the painting someone else might have passed on. The vintage piece that doesn’t perfectly “go” with everything else. The odd little object that has no business being there—except that it means something to the person who lives there.

That’s what makes a home feel personal.

I don’t believe your home should be designed around what will impress everyone else. It should be shaped around what you love, what matters to you, and the things you want to live with.

So the next time you find yourself wondering, “Will people like this?”

Maybe ask a different question:

“Do I want to live with it?”

Because your home doesn’t need to make sense to everyone else.

It just needs to make sense to you. 😊

Maybe farmhouse was never meant to be a look.

Before “farmhouse” became a design aesthetic, these homes were simply responding to real life.

To climate.
To materials.
To the work happening around them.
To the people living there.

A farmhouse in New England could look completely different from one in the South—and both could be exactly what they were supposed to be.

So maybe the question isn't:

“How do I make this room look farmhouse?”

Maybe it's:

“How should this home live?”

Because the best farmhouse design isn't about checking the right boxes.

It's about creating spaces that feel useful, welcoming, unfussy, and connected to the place they're in.

And maybe that's what we've loved about farmhouse all along.

Not the look.
The way it lives.

A beautiful room can still be a bad room.

Because good design isn't just about choosing beautiful furniture, colors, and finishes. Before any of that, the room has to work.

Three things I think we often underthink:

→ Layout + flow — Can you actually move through the space naturally?

→ Scale — Do the size and visual weight of the pieces make sense for the room?

→ Storage — Where does all the real-life stuff go?

And yes, I'm going to say it again: not every kitchen needs an island. 😂

Sometimes the best design decision is the thing you don't force into the room.

Because your home isn't a photograph.

It's your life.
