One of my favorite parts of being an interior designer is that there really isn’t a shortage of questions. 😂

And honestly, I love that.

Because some of the questions I get are about things that seem small—but those little decisions can have a surprisingly big impact on how a room looks, feels, and functions.

I also think there’s way too much design advice out there that makes people feel like they’re doing something “wrong” if their home doesn’t follow a certain rule.

That’s not how I see design.

There are principles I rely on. There are choices that tend to work better than others. And there are definitely a few things I’ll have opinions about. 😂

But ultimately, your home has to make sense for you.

That’s the part I care about most.

So keep the questions coming. I have a feeling there’s enough design confusion out there for a Part 2. 😉

Things in this kitchen that I especially love—not just because they’re beautiful, but because they’re smart design decisions.

The microwave drawer is one of them. It keeps the range wall clean and eliminates the need for the microwave-above-the-stove look without sacrificing convenience.

I also love the combination of upper cabinets with drawers below. It’s a simple choice, but one that can make everyday storage so much easier.

And then there’s that six-burner Monogram range. Is it a splurge? Absolutely. But when a client is investing in a kitchen they plan to enjoy for years, I think it’s worth looking at where spending more can create both a functional and visual impact.

And that wood island? One of my favorite details. The contrast against the cream cabinetry brings warmth into the space while adding valuable workspace and creating a natural gathering spot.

But honestly, what I love most about this kitchen is how all of those decisions work together.

Because great kitchen design isn't about adding the most expensive or impressive things.

It’s about knowing which choices are worth making—and making sure every one of them supports the way the space is meant to look, feel, and function.

It’s not just about making a home prettier.

It’s about helping a client’s home finally feel the way they wanted it to feel all along.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that creating a beautiful, elevated home requires a big budget or a major renovation.

Most of the time, it doesn’t.

It’s about recognizing the details that often go unnoticed — the layout that doesn’t quite flow, the lighting that isn’t supporting the space, the pieces that are beautiful on their own but aren’t working together.

Those small decisions quietly shape the way a room feels.

And that’s the part I love most about what I do...

They're simply passing through.

The problem happens when we decorate for everyone else's approval instead of creating a home that reflects who we are.

The homes that leave the biggest impression aren't usually filled with the newest or most expensive pieces.

They're filled with things that have meaning.

The painting you fell in love with.
The vintage chair you searched months to find.
The handmade pottery you picked up on vacation.
The family heirloom that reminds you where you came from.

Those are the pieces that make a house feel like home.

So if you're wondering whether something is "in style," ask yourself a better question:

Do I love it enough to live with it every day?

Because trends will change.

A home that tells your story never goes out of style.

Designers rarely choose one beautiful tile.

They choose an entire tile system that's designed to work together.

That means coordinating field tile, trim pieces, edge profiles, corner pieces, pencil rails, and other details that are designed to work together. Those layered elements are what create the custom, polished look you see in inspiration photos.
So before you fall in love with a color or finish, ask one simple question:
"Is this tile part of a complete tile system?"
That one question could save you from a bathroom that feels unfinished—and help you achieve the look you were actually trying to create.
