Mountain home renovations are a lot to take on, especially for the first time.

There are decisions around every corner and it helps to have someone who can slow it down and make it make sense. We loved walking Gwen and her husband through every step, from the drawings to the decor choices, until it all clicked.

At Elle J Design, this is exactly why we do what we do.
Grateful for the kind words, Gwen. 🩵

The before doesn't lie.

This project had good bones. Original architectural details worth keeping, rooms that just needed the right direction. What we changed wasn't the structure. It was everything fighting against it.

Three spaces. Each one stripped back and rebuilt as part of the same design system. The finishes don't match because they're trendy. They work because every selection was made in relation to the others.

That's the difference between a home that looks updated and one that feels like it was always supposed to look this way.

Which space surprised you most?

How many decisions are in one kitchen?
More than most people realize.

Cabinet door style. Aisle clearance. Work triangle efficiency. Lighting temperature.
And that's before the finish selections even start.

Every single one affects how the space functions for the next 10 years. Get the aisle clearance wrong and two people can't cook together. Miss a dedicated circuit and the GC is opening walls after cabinets are in.

The decisions that look invisible in a finished kitchen are usually the ones that mattered most. And they all have an order. Get the sequence wrong and you're paying for it in change orders before the cabinets are even hung.

The best kitchens look effortless. That's what 200+ right decisions looks like.

You came here because you want more than a pretty room.

You want a space that handles a wet ski day without looking like it does. Materials that actually belong in the mountains. Rooms that make hosting feel easy, not chaotic.

That is what we design for. Every project starts with the blueprint and ends with a home that works the way your life actually works in Colorado.

What does your mountain home need to feel like yours?

Layout mistakes don't announce themselves until you're living with them: furniture that fights your traffic pattern, finishes that felt perfect only in the showroom, a niche that ended up behind a plumbing wall because no one decided where it was going before framing closed.

These are the important decisions we work through in the layout and space planning phase, before a single wall goes up (or down).

Scale, flow, framing locations, how finishes interact as a system. None of it gets solved after the fact.

If you're planning a build or full remodel, this is the part of the process worth getting right first.
Which of these mistakes would have been hardest to catch on your own?

Layout comes before finishes. Every time.

When a wet bar feels effortless to use, that's not only the tile or the faucet doing the work. That's the dimensions underneath it: the clearances, the heights, the flow. Most people never think about this until something feels off and they can't figure out why.

That's exactly why we get the layout right before a single finish gets chosen. A wet bar with the wrong dimensions is a problem no amount of good tile can fix, and our job is to make sure you never have to find that out the hard way.

So we start there. Every project, every time.

A material board tells you everything about a room before the room even exists.

This Frisco powder bath was designed around the textured wall treatment. Warm wood to ground it, a timeless white vanity top for balance, and brushed nickel to keep it from going too heavy. The mirror was the last piece, and it had to be exactly right.

Some rooms earn a second look. This is one of them.

Design starts long before anything looks beautiful.

Before the furniture arrives, before the finishes are chosen, there are drawings, decisions, and a hundred conversations most clients never see. That's where we live.

We're artists. Problem solvers. Blueprint readers. Visionaries.
And when it all comes together, we're the detail that made it feel like yours.

We are Elle J Design.

Empty rooms have a way of hiding their own potential.

Interior styling is what closes that gap. The right furniture, the right textures, the right objects in the right places. It's what takes a beautifully built space and makes it feel like somewhere you actually want to be.

The pot filler is one of those things you don't know you need until the first time you fill a stock pot without walking across the kitchen.

Wall-mounted over the range and set against zellige tile and a custom cold-rolled steel hood, the brass pot filler was chosen to balance the brights and darks in this Frisco custom spec home.

Functional hardware doesn't have to disappear. Here, it earns its place visually and justifies itself every time someone actually cooks.

If we haven't met yet, hello. I'm Elle!

I started Elle J Design because I genuinely love the process of turning a floor plan into a home that feels like the people who live in it.

My background is a little different from most designers you'll come across. I have an accounting brain, construction experience (I built my own home with my own hands), and an Associate Kitchen and Bath Design (AKBD) certificate from the NKBA. That combination means I can sit at the table with your architect and your builder and actually speak their language. It also means I watch your budget the way a financial partner would, not just a creative one.

We're an independent firm. Every recommendation we make serves your project and nothing else.

If you're thinking about your next space in Summit County, Breckenridge, Frisco, or the Vail Valley, we'd love to hear about it.
