Flower Power! 🌸

This is the time of year when our our gardens begin to burst into color.

I saw these gorgeous window boxes when I was walking in London and it inspired me to add more color to my own gardens.

It is the kickoff of this year’s Brimfield Antique Festival in Brimfield, Massachusetts.

The dates for this year are:
May 12-17
July 14-19
September 8-13

I have been attending this event for over 25 years and it is always exciting.

We are so excited to announce that we will be restoring the historic Pine Grove Schoolhouse in Avon, Connecticut.

This one room school house was built in 1865 and was based on a design by Thomas A. Teft of a village school in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Constructed and equipped at a cost of $1,538.34, it opened in December of 1865. The school’s first teacher, Miss Francis, received $96.00 for the four-month winter term.

I am obsessed with lighting. I am always collecting vintage and antique lamps and chandeliers. I now own hundreds of incredible lighting fixtures.

This is my favorite piece. We found it last year at the Brimfield Antique Featival in Brimfield, Massachusetts.

It is an enormous lamp, over 4 feet tall with its shade and is a Mid Century Modern piece from 1952.

I do not collect MCM furniture and accessories, but when I see this piece, I knew I had to have it for my Connecticut home.

If you love something…buy it! Don’t worry if it “goes with your decor.”

Simple pleasures!

Upcycling is more important and more popular than ever.

One of our very good Massachusetts customers, Brenda Sheldon, painted this old piece of furniture, giving it a new and updated look! She used Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan and it could not have been easier to do.

Brenda used Paris Grey Chalk Paint, Napoleonic Blue Chalk Paint and Clear and White Chalk Paint Wax.

I just love how this piece turned out.

Today, she left with Emperor’s Silk Chalk Paint and she said that she is not an artist but just loves how easy and therapeutic painting furniture is.

I am so honored to have been asked to be the keynote speaker at this year’s Connecticut Arts Docent Network at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

We talked all things color! Our audience of 80 participants learned about how we perceive color and react to color. We discussed how color affects art exhibitions and how color evokes emotions. Each table then created an art exhibition with art work and exhibition colors.

A special thank you to Tina LaLima and Farrow & Ball for assisting me with this talk and hands-on workshop.
