An incredibly special opportunity to work with this beautiful 1890 vintage quilt lovingly displayed in this beautiful home.

All of the fabrics came from the iconic B.Altmans store. Remarkably, they were all used in the tailoring of dresses for our First Ladies. The tumbling blocks pattern was made in the crazy quilt style...various fabric scraps pieced together and enhanced with painstaking embroidery stitches.

Though it was in impressive condition, given the age, much of the silk needed repair. We gently covered the worn spots with tulle and hand-stitched other worn spots as needed.

It was an honor to be asked and to be allowed to spend time with this treasure.

Some fabrics speak to us. This one said..."please don't cut me up." The thick and irregular embroidery would have been disrupted if this cushion was seamed on the front. We opted for a waterfall style to keep the beautiful pattern flowing over the front. We loved having this fabric on our table! It's a real beauty.
