The French gĂąteau au yaourt â âyogurt cakeâ is a classic childrenâs cake in France because the yogurt container becomes the measuring cup for the whole recipe.
Itâs simple, tender, and lightly sweet â perfect with berries, lemon, or just plain.
French Yogurt Cake (using one 5 oz yogurt container)
Ingredients
Use the empty yogurt container to measure everything after pouring the yogurt out.
* 1 container (5 oz) plain yogurt
* 2 containers sugar
* 3 containers flour
* 1/2 container neutral oil (sunflower, avocado, or light olive oil)
* 3 eggs
* 2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* Pinch of salt
Optional additions
* Zest of 1 lemon or orange
* Fresh berries
* Chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Grease an 8-inch round cake pan or loaf pan.
3. In a bowl, mix yogurt, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and oil.
4. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth.
5. Fold in lemon zest or berries if using.
6. Bake about 30â40 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
7. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
