Among the Thorns will be CLOSED MONDAY in celebration of Labor Day!

Because apparently even the flower lady is supposed to take a day off every once in a while. 🌵💐😂

But don’t worry — we’ll be back Tuesday, rested, caffeinated, slightly unhinged, and ready to resume all the awesomeness during our regular business hours! 🙌🏼

Which means we are officially running out of “I’ve still got plenty of time” time. 😂

If a mum or garter is still sitting on your to-do list, now is the time to check that box. ✔️

Orders are coming in, supplies are piling up, and this one-woman mum-making machine can only make so many! 😂 I want every order to get the time, details and attention it deserves, so once I hit my limit, I’ll have to close orders.

🤍 Wednesday Design & Devotion — The Story Didn’t End There

There’s no design today.

No flowers. No canvas. No project.

Just me, sitting on my couch and being a little more raw than usual.

I almost skipped Design & Devotion for the next couple of weeks because these dates are heavy. But I kept thinking…

What if someone needs to hear this?

Five years ago, I couldn’t see past what I was losing. I couldn’t imagine the healing, the laughter, the adventures, the new beginnings—or that one day the Wednesday I dreaded would become a day I look forward to.

So today, I’m sharing a little more of my story.

Not because I have all the answers, but because maybe someone standing in the middle of a chapter they never asked for needs someone a little farther down the road to say:

Keep going. God is still writing.

The story didn’t end there.

Ours didn’t.

And yours hasn’t either. 🤍

I only have so many hands, so many hours in the day, and so many supplies. Once I hit my limit — that’s it. I may not be able to squeeze in those last-minute orders this year.

Last year I made mums & garters for 17 different schools across Texas, and this year is already shaping up to be just as wild. 🤪

✨🌵 There’s something NEW growing Among the Thorns… 🌵✨

Y’all know me well enough by now to know that apparently I’m physically incapable of JUST doing flowers. 😂

If I can paint it, bake it, build it, arrange it, put it on a board or turn it into a girls’ night… chances are I’m gonna try it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So it was time to give all of those creative adventures a home of their own.

I think “just make it pretty” might be my favorite set of instructions. 😂💐

No recipe. No cookie-cutter design. No making the same arrangement twelve times.

Just give me a pile of gorgeous flowers and let me do my thing. 🙌🏼

Chocolate roses next to bright orange. Purple hydrangea with deep red ranunculus. Sunflowers, bells of Ireland, funky textures…and yes, a prickly pear cactus casually hanging out in the middle of roses. 🌵😂

Does it all technically “go together?”
Maybe not.

Does it work? Absolutely.

I’ve never wanted Among the Thorns to be the flower shop where everything looks like everything else. I want you to look at an arrangement and think, “Yep…Jess made that.”

A little unexpected. A whole lot of color. Slightly unhinged. 😂 And always made with love.

Pretty doesn’t have to be predictable. 🌸🌵✨

🌸 A Little Flower Care 101 🌸

You’ve received a beautiful fresh arrangement—now let’s keep those blooms looking their best for as long as possible! 💐

A few simple things can make a BIG difference in the life of your flowers:

🌿 Keep them cool!�Fresh flowers do not love heat or direct sunlight. Keep your arrangement away from sunny windows, heaters, hot cars, and other warm areas. A cool spot in your home is best!

💧 Fresh water is your friend!�Check your arrangement daily. Flowers drink more than you might think! Add fresh, clean water as needed—and if your flowers are arranged directly in a vase, changing the water regularly helps prevent bacteria from building up.

✂️ Remove fading blooms.�As individual flowers begin to fade, gently remove them. This keeps your arrangement looking fresh and helps protect the remaining blooms.

🍎 Bonus tip: Keep fresh flowers away from ripening fruit! Fruit releases ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to age faster.

And remember—fresh flowers are a living, perishable product. Different varieties naturally have different vase lives, so some blooms may fade before others. That’s completely normal! Removing those blooms allows you to continue enjoying the ones that still have plenty of life left. 🌸
