It's impossible to get good interior design photos with a kitty in the room. 🐈

The guest bedroom is a little further along! Jeff is still working on building a loft bed for above the built-in closet. Sneak peek soon!

🌿 Same room, different season 🌿

Spring is here, Georgia! Ignore the 20° weather this morning, birds are chirping again this afternoon!

During the winter, I naturally lean into warmer, cozier elements like velvet curtains, deeper tones, and soft lighting to make our space feel tucked in and comfortable. As spring starts to roll in, I want our living space to feel lighter and more open, so I made a few small changes that make a huge impact but don't break the bank.

I swapped out the velvet curtains for light linen, changed the covers on a few throw pillows instead of replacing them entirely, traded thick blankets for softer textures (still not light colors, we have 6 dogs living in this house), and let in as much natural light as possible. I also added a bit of greenery to bring some life back into the space.

What I love about this approach is that it keeps your home feeling fresh without the pressure to start over every season. You’re not redecorating, simply adjusting the mood and letting your space evolve along with the time of year. And it takes a whopping 30 minutes to accomplish, at best.

It’s a good reminder that creating a new feeling in your home doesn’t have to come with a big price tag, just a little intention and a willingness to change the small things that often get overlooked.

Need some help with your space? Message me!

💌 Bonus note: Reversible blankets like this throw are my favorite because they change easily with the seasons and are the perfect size and weight. It's the one you see on the back of the recliner in the two photos. My other favorite thing about it - dog hair doesn't stick! 🐾 https://a.co/d/0bjbgeUe

🌱 Anyone else love incorporating live plants into their design style? ✨

I only recently did this since I've had a bit of a brown thumb my entire life. I once killed a cactus. 👀

Show me the plants in your favorite design space! 🪴

✨Guest bedroom update✨

I'm going for a French Cottage style design with this room, which is far from my comfortable dark academia. It's definitely in the 'baby steps' phase since we built this room from the ground up, but it's nice to see some progress! Jeff is working hard on a built-in style closet while I do the caulking, painting and designing. It's a team effort! 🌼💠

I love multiple forms of lighting in design to create that "hygge" feeling. In our living room there are three lamps, strip lighting on the skinny table behind the couch to bring out the foliage and a wireless lamp for Jeff's whiskey table to show off the beautiful grain of the wood. There's only one overhead light in this room, on the ceiling fan, and we never use it. What lighting in your home bothers you the most that you'd like to fix? Post pics in the comments!

🔥Hygge🕯️ A Danish and Norwegian term for a social and cultural atmosphere of cozy, comfortable and warm contentment. It emphasizes embracing life's simple pleasures, such as quality time with loved ones, enjoying hot drinks or relaxing in a calm environment.

Editors note: Ignore the crumpled blankets and throw pillows. We have Great Danes! 😁

One downside to buying antiques - you find that one perfect item, but no mate. ❌

I found this candlestick holder a few months ago and searched high and low for a new one across 5 or 6 different antique stores... To no avail. Google Lens is fantastic for this! Take a photo, upload to Google Photos and use Google Lens to search the internet. Sometimes you get lucky and find a match on Etsy or eBay. Found this one on Etsy and now my wall feels complete!

Hi and welcome! I’m Laura, the human behind 'If It Fitz Design.'

After ten moves during my military career, and more repainting and rearranging than I care to count, I realized I’ve basically lived a self-taught interior design bootcamp. Now I’m finally turning all of that cozy-home knowledge outward to help other people love where they live too.

My style is what I call Moody Heritage -- warm, lived-in rooms with deep colors, soft lamplight, wood textures, thrifted finds, and furniture that has a story. Think rainy-day comfort meets classic old-world charm. My goal is simple: create spaces that make you want to sit down, exhale, and stay awhile.

I help with:
• Kids rooms
• Master bedrooms
• Kitchens
• Bathrooms
• Home offices
• Sitting rooms
• Travel trailers (yes, even tiny spaces deserve cozy)

I believe you don’t need luxury pricing to have a beautiful home. You need someone who listens, understands your life, and helps you bring comfort and character into your space. Someone willing to search for those items and bring them back to life with a little wood oil, paint or hardware changes, which is my specialty.

If you’re ready to turn a room you avoid into a place you love, send me a message here. And if it fits your life, your style and your budget... it Fitz! 💙
