CALICO FLORIST & GIFTS is a family owned and operated business located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee just minutes from beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee. We make daily deliveries to hospitals, funeral homes, businesses and residential homes in Soddy-Daisy as well as surrounding cities. We have been creating beautiful floral arrangements of all shapes and sizes as well as adding accents such as stuffed animals and balloons to thousands of special floral designs for past 30 years.

Can I be honest for a minute?

Creative fatigue is very real in floral design. There are days I look at a finished piece and think, “I’ve completely lost my touch.”

Then an arrangement like this cross comes across my workbench, and my perspective shifts.

This isn’t meant to compete with my past work. It’s meant for someone seeing it for the very first time—someone who needs comfort, not perfection. The flowers change every time, but the heart behind them never does.

We don’t have to constantly outdo ourselves. Sometimes our only job is to show up, steward the work faithfully, and let the quiet beauty of the blooms speak for themselves.

You know how you have a 5-page paper due and you’ve only written 3 pages, so suddenly you’re saying the same thing six different ways just to make it longer.

That’s baby’s breath sometimes.

Need the bouquet to look fuller?
Baby’s breath.

Need the centerpiece to look bigger?
Baby’s breath.

Need something to fill the empty spaces?
Baby’s breath.

Need to make a design feel more “wedding-y”?
Throw in some baby’s breath. 😂

And before you know it, you’ve got an entire wedding covered in tiny white clouds.

The problem isn’t baby’s breath itself.

The problem is using it as a substitute for design.

A beautiful arrangement should have movement, texture, shape, contrast, and intention.

Baby’s breath can absolutely be part of that.

But when it’s being used simply because there’s empty space that needs filling, I’d rather see that space intentionally designed.

There are SO many other flowers and foliages that can add interest, movement, and personality to a wedding.

So no, I’m not saying “never use baby’s breath.”

I’m saying:
Don’t let baby’s breath do all the heavy lifting. 😂
