Be kind to him world he’s over 130 years old. 🥹

This delightful French musical automaton of a gymnast clown on parallel bars is attributed to Leopold Lambert and dates to approximately 1885!

When activated, a cylinder music box plays while this charming clown stands between the bars lifting his body upside down to a handstand. He then lifts himself on one hand, pirouettes 90 degrees to a single bar while moving his head, rotates back and drops between the bars again!

*SOLD* but too incredible not to share!

Considered one of the best-performing Victor phonographs of its day, the Model V reflects expert craftsmanship throughout. Crafted entirely of richly grained quarter-sawn oak, this example is distinguished by its rare Spearpoint wood horn, Victor’s finest offering of the era, and further completed by a rare original stand and storage cabinet featuring carved floral corners, claw feet, and automatic doors.

Nothing compares to the sound and sentiments generated by these wonderful musical machines, which remain just as impressive today as they did over 100 years ago. 🎶

This incredible set sold as soon as we listed it, but it is too incredible not to share! Check out our website or contact us directly to see more photographs we have available!

This incredible French musical automaton by Léopold Lambert brings to life the timeless spectacle of the conjurer’s cup game. The figure of a clown magician, with hand-painted features, glass eyes, and an original formal costume, commands attention with both whimsy and presence.
When activated, a two-tune cylinder music box sets the stage as the magician “addresses” his audience. His head turns from side to side, tongue playfully extended, baton circling in a gesture that invites curiosity, encouraging viewers to guess, or perhaps even place a friendly bets, on which object will be revealed next!
With a showman’s flourish, he directs his gaze downward, lifting a metal cone to reveal one of four concealed objects, a pocket watch, a doll, a candlestick, or a die. Each motion creates a moment of anticipation that echoes the lively spirit of parlor entertainment at the turn of the century.
Both charming and full of mechanically ingenuity, this automaton exemplifies the artistry and imagination that defined French mechanical amusements of the period, where mechanical storytelling, music, and movement come together in an enchanting performance. Created circa 1900.

This captivating brooch is not only a fashion statement but also a miniature work of art. Tiny, hand-cut pieces of colored enamel (tesserae) were arranged to create a detailed depiction of St. Peter’s Basilica Square. Its gold chain features a woven hair lock, which was a characteristic of jewelry from the Victorian era that added a deeply personal, sentimental aspect to jewelry.
