Shoutout to our first responders from both MN and WI that were able to talk with this man and save his life. I happened to be driving by right after someone on the other side of the bridge made the decision to end his life and they were all rushing across 4 lanes of traffic to get to this person while dive teams and spotters from above searched for the one that didn't make it. It messed with me for a couple days thinking about it and I have driven over this bridge quite a few times since and think of both of them. I drive over this bridge twice a day and there have unfortunately been around 7 or so other situations since it was built.

This isn't about me, this is to share a very real look into mental health and the state of things these days. If you're struggling, don't let it get to this point. Talk with a friend, a family member, call 911 or 988 to ask for help. Strangers care about you. I don't know either of the people on that bridge that day but I know I cared about what they were going through.

We took a little stroll through a local downtown area today stopping into all kinds of great small businesses. Not necessarily looking for anything. One thing I found was reassurance.

We set out to make the best candles you can get and not market them like crazy into some kind of high end luxury brand to make you pay for a name. I'm not going to name names because anyone can find them out and about but here's our findings.

5 brands of candles.

4 of them carried a candle the same size as our single wick (which is $15) and all 4 of them charge $24 each.

1 carried a 4oz candle which is about half the size of our single wick (again, which is $15) that candle was $12

3 carried a candle that was the size of our double wick (which is $24) all 3 of them were $35-$42.

This is a nearly apples to apples comparison because the containers on most of them were similar to ours. But even the ones that weren't, I know the cost of and they don't cost that much more to buy wholesale.

You can have everything and then some that these brands offered with us for 40% less of the cost. When we say choose Somerscents, we mean do it for yourself, not just to get another sale!

Somerscents actually IS a high end luxury candle brand, we just don't charge you like we are 🙂

I happened to see something today that really made me think about how we have a platform, regardless of if its small compared to others. Today I'd like to use it for something besides our business.

In case you're going through something today don't forget there are options and people that care about you who you've never even met. You might be at your lowest low and think there's nothing that'll ever make it better. Its hard to see the light when you're that far deep in the dark but let someone try to help you see it when you think there's nowhere to turn.

Our thoughts are with two individuals who we've never met or talked to that were so far into that darkness that one decided there weren't any other options. And for the one who was able to be convinced, we hope you wake up tomorrow and see sun shining in the window and find that feeling inside that tells you that even though it might be a bad day, it doesn't have to be a bad life.
