Gave away the last Fortune Son banner this week.

This one went to another OG — someone who’s been shopping with us since the pop-up days, before there were stores, before The Garage, before any of this looked like it does today.

I filmed a little of the interaction afterward with Alphee. Fair warning… I’d already been crying. 😂

But that’s kind of the point.

This banner was made with love, built from nothing. Giving the last one to someone who has supported us since those early days just felt right.

Retail is about selling things. But building this place has always been about the people, the relationships, and the community that has grown up around it.

I don’t do this often but this week I brought in a couple of original pieces of artwork to display. Our shop is authentically us, so I figured I’d share some of my artwork with you. We’ve got an action packed day at Nomad Jax today we’ve got the Australian Shepherd puppies from 930 to 12. Come snuggle those puppies… and this evening is our last installment of our summer concert series inside Gulley’s garden center doors open at five music from 6 to 8 PM. Come out and support our local businesses.

This is what shopping small is supposed to feel like.

About a year ago, a longtime customer and I had a conversation about a project her son had done years ago to honor his grandfather. I developed some artwork around it, but for one reason or another, we never ended up making anything.

Fast forward to this week. She came into the shop looking for a patch for her father’s 80th birthday. We didn’t have what she was looking for.

So we made it.

We pulled that old artwork back out and turned it into a completely custom pennant, handmade from beautiful Japanese selvedge denim and created specifically for him.

That’s one of my favorite things about owning a small shop. Over time, customers become friends. You learn their stories, remember conversations, and every once in a while you get the opportunity to make something that means a whole lot more than something pulled off a shelf.

“I Ain’t No Fortunate Son.”

Made for an 80th birthday today. Hopefully a piece his family will still be hanging onto many years from now.

That’s the good stuff. 🇺🇸
