We are thrilled to share our latest (finally photographed), cause we finished in December… Primary Bathroom.

We had to solve a few issues and work around a few things to deliver this design to our clients.

Where the tub once stood is a skylight and a large picture window. When we first met with the clients they envisioned keeping the tub there due to those restraints, but we had other plans!

This was the largest footprint and we wanted to give them a huge shower with seat, rain shower, body sprays.

So how did we do it?

We gave them an enormous shower. We focused on material selection to ensure no damage would incur to trim, window or ceiling.

We kept the vanity on the wall it was on, but we added a storage tower. Taking it to the ceiling for ample storage.

We had a large window we needed to work with. Initially, not gonna lie, we wanted to eliminate it. But, we listened to the client and that they lived the natural light. So we improved the window and utilized it in the design.

Where this tub sits use to be the toilet closet and it had so much wasted space. So we tore out that wall and reframed the whole bathroom to gain about 7 feet of usable space. Giving us a beautiful area to highlight the tub.

To the left at that door is a fireplace masonry stack, so our design had to consider that and we only could move that wall so much! But we did move it, we took about 10 inches or so to widen the walkway so it didn’t feel so tight at the vanity.

Mudrooms 🥍👟🧃🐾🎒🥾📦🏀🫟 the workhorse of the house. It is the drop zone! Shoes are kicked off, backpacks are spilling over, sports gear is everywhere and all the random stuff piles up. Not to mention it’s the first thing you see every morning and evening when you come home. Here are my 3 hot tips ➡️

1) Hide Everything.
Open cubbies look tidy in a showroom and cluttered in real life. I build in doors or drawer fronts so the mess disappears when the door closes, and I make the storage at least 18” deep so backpacks and gear actually fit inside, not just hang off the front.

2) Durable Flooring.
This is the room that takes the brunt of snow, mud, and dropped hockey sticks, so the floor needs to shrug it off. I reach for slate often: it’s tough, it hides dirt between cleanings, and it holds up to moisture better than most wood options.

3) Custom Baskets
Designing around a generic ‘basket-sized’ cubby is a gamble — if that exact basket gets discontinued, the whole layout falls apart. I stick to basket sizes I can consistently source, or skip the guesswork entirely with cabinets and heavy-duty drawers instead.

I hope one of these saves you from a mudroom mistake before it happens, these three fixes have saved my sanity more than once. If you’re thinking about a renovation or would like to learn more about working with me, I’d love to help. Start the conversation via the link in my bio.

What does it take to get there?

A solid initial design. Creativity. Incredible trades. Excellent project management. Clients that trust the process.

Enjoying these last days of summer before the mudrooms are packed with school bags and sports equipment.

Would you believe us if we told you this space didn’t exist before? No dedicated mudroom, no bathroom! Then, we found a way to add them both without changes the footprint of the home!
