First impressions matter. An entry should set the tone for the entire home, and this one does just that. The textured warmth of grass cloth on the walls creates a soft, inviting backdrop, while the zebra bench adds a touch of tailored drama. An oversized arched mirror, designed to mimic the shape of the front door, reflects light and instantly elevates the space. Finished with cheetah pillows for a playful punch, the mix feels curated, confident, and a little bit unexpected. This space says welcome in, with personality to spare.

Coffered ceilings are one of those design details that quietly elevate an entire space. Mixing light and dark tones within the coffers adds visual interest and just the right amount of drama, drawing the eye upward. It’s proof that sometimes the most impactful design moments are above eye level.

Who says the kitchen needs a table? We designed a kitchen chat area with swivel chairs—perfect for soaking in the view and staying connected with whoever’s cooking. Casual, comfortable, and made for conversation.

There’s something incredibly special about revisiting a client’s home years after completing a project. I love walking through the spaces we created together, seeing how each selection—from flooring and furniture to art, drapes, and accessories—has stood the test of time. This particular home was completed 8 years ago, and it still feels fresh, current, and effortlessly California coastal cool."

BEFORE. This 3 sided fireplace was covered in green glass. Behind the glass you could see the glue. AFTER. We use a dimensional wave tile elevating this fireplace as well as adding a lot of visual interest.

Light, bright and fresh! Check out the dramatic island granite called Alpinus Crystal. It is a WOWZER! We used a different granite on the perimeter that is quite. I wanted the island to be the stunner. What do you think?

I’m thrilled to mark 23 years since I launched Smart Interiors. What began in Maryland, expanded to San Francisco, and for the past 18 years, has blossomed right here in beautiful San Diego. It’s been an incredible journey turning houses into homes that people love coming back to.

While I’m not curing cancer, there’s something truly special about creating spaces that bring comfort, joy, and inspiration to my clients. I’m deeply grateful for every opportunity and for the wonderful clients who make this work so rewarding.

Here’s to many more years of designing spaces that feel like home!
