Just finished up these two 10” spoons that were made from some absolutely beautiful spalted maple. Decided to do a little throwback on the handles and give them a more oval shape similar to how I used to make them rather than my traditional tapered look I mostly do now. I think it gives the spoon a much more softer and elegant look which compliments the maple very nicely! These two spoons a handful of others are now available in the Etsy store! Trying to keep it regularly updated now along with the website… 😅

One item I thought was a must with my work was the spoon rest; I mean it just made sense since spoons are a major part of Carolina Grain Co. So a few weeks ago I finally got the hang of them and then just went a little crazy with it! These little things have been a blast to make and also I just love how the colors contrast against the wood, it’s nice to break up the browns every now and then! Spoon rest will be making their way to the website soon along with some other new work I haven’t shared yet…. More to come!

Just picked up a new batch of work so here is a little preview at some of the pieces fresh from the kiln! I think my booth at Southport this year will be a little more colorful and I’m here for it!

Really excited to be sharing this one! I’m finally getting a little more comfortable on the wheel and figured I’d give throwing some salt cellars a try. This is one of those items that perfectly represents what I had in mind for Carolina Grain when I started working with clay - a beautiful combination of wood and pottery that compliments each other. I am absolutely thrilled with how these turned out and can’t wait to share some more that are currently being fired. These three here are the first of many and will be available at my next upcoming show which is in two weeks in Southport. Work like this is a great reminder to me of my early days of when I started Carolina Grain when I made whatever I wanted and it’s been a huge breath of fresh air. I’m excited to see what yall think of these and if you’d like to see some in the website shop?!

Thank you to Missions Pottery for firing and glazing!

Sometimes a section of a log doesn’t always work out for bowls which isn’t always necessarily a negative because then it gets cut up into blanks for utensils like what this six piece utensil set was made from. Even though this spalted beech would have made a beautiful bowl, I think this utensil set still does the wood justice! This set consists of a 12” and 15” spoon, a round end and flat end spatula, a spreading knife and my new favorite utensil - the off set spatula!

I figured since spoons are one of my main items I make, it only made sense for me to try and make a spoon rest. So this past weekend I finally took a stab at it and I’ve got to say I’m pretty happy with the results! Started with these five to try and just get the hang of it and also figured it would be something good to practice consistency with. Enjoyed it so much, I’ve already got half a bag of clay prepped to do more 😂 So I guess spoon rest coming to the shop soon? These five still need a tad bit more clean up and drying first before they go to the kiln but soon! I’ll be curious to see how many more I throw this weekend…

Alright yall, the shop update is now live! Free shipping on all orders from now until Sunday at midnight. Also please be sure to let me know what you think of the new ceramic utensil jars! It was an awesome feeling and even a little weird getting them photographed and seeing them along with the utensils because this is the first time I have ever offered something other than wood on the website!

Well I definitely had intentions of sharing some of the new work throughout this past week but here we are a day before the update and I’m finally sharing something! 😅 I guess better late than never?? Either way! Here is a small look at just the utensils that will be available tomorrow morning at 10 AM! Along with the utensils there will of course be the new utensil jars, bowls, cake pedestals and some salt cellars! Maybe I’ll double post tomorrow just to try and make up for my slackness this week… But everything will be available tomorrow on the Carolina Grain Co. website shop at 10, also free shipping on orders all weekend - no minimum!
