What Does That Really Mean?

As a real estate agent/advisor, I'm constantly helping homeowners protect and maximize the value of one of their largest investments—their home.

One area that is often overlooked is window maintenance.

Neglected windows don't just look dirty. Over time, hard water stains, mineral deposits, sprinkler overspray, oxidation, and environmental contaminants can permanently damage glass. In some cases, homeowners are faced with costly glass restoration or even window replacement.

• Is there a contract?

Every company structures these programs differently, so it's important to understand exactly what you're getting.

The reality is that most homeowners don't need unlimited window cleaning.

Here in Utah County, dust, pollen, sprinkler overspray, construction debris, and changing weather conditions typically mean that 2–4 professional cleanings per year keep windows looking great and help protect the glass.

BEFORE YOU PAY EXTRA FOR A "WATER REPELLANT" PLAN... KNOW THE TRUTH.

Several homeowners have recently told me about door-to-door window cleaners offering a water-repellent treatment that they claim will keep windows cleaner longer and come with a six-month guarantee.

As someone who has been cleaning windows in Utah County for 43 years, I think it's important to understand what these products can—and cannot—do.

Water-repellent coatings can help water bead up and run off YOUR CAR WINDOWS BUT NOT YOUR WINDOWS ON YOUR HOME.

What they don't do is prevent:
• Utah dust
• Pollen
• Hard water from sprinklers
• Insect spots
• Bird droppings
• Wind-blown dirt and debris

In other words:
WATER REPELLENTS REPEL WATER.
THEY DON'T REPEL DIRT.

Before paying an additional charge for a coating or protection plan, ask yourself:

Would that money be better spent on another professional window cleaning later in the year?

WE DO NOT OFFER THIS ADD ON BECAUSE WE FEEL THAT IT IS AN UP-SALE GIMMICK AND DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH LONT-TERM BENEFIT TO JUSTIFY THE EXTRA EXPENSE.

It’s kind of like a car wash that adds rain repellent — it may help water bead up, but after a dirty storm you can still end up with dirt and water spots. So it helps a little, but it doesn’t keep the surface clean for long.

If you've used one of these products and love it, that's great. Every homeowner should make the choice that's best for them.
