When I think of labor and birth the first word that comes to mind is ✨surrender✨.

So much about pregnancy and birth is out of our control, but there is such beauty in the surrender.

When moms feel safe and confident, surrendering to the intensity of labor and birth feels empowering.

Surrendering doesn’t mean you say yes to everything.

It means that you trust your body enough to take your mind out of the scenario. So, what does that look like in real life?

- Meditation, visualization, and breathwork
- Taking time to listen to your intuition
- Getting to the root of your fears and using education to overcome them
- Hiring a doula to help support you in that
- Taking a yoga class

In today’s society we are taught to fear labor and birth. Birth is not something to fear, it is something to embrace. What an amazing power we hold as women!

✨ The Golden Hour ✨
That first hour after birth is powerful — for baby and for you.

🤍 Skin-to-Skin
• Regulate baby’s temperature
• Stabilize heart rate + breathing
• Boost oxytocin
• Support bonding
Your chest is the perfect first home. 🏡

✂️ Delayed Cord Clamping
Waiting to clamp the cord allows extra blood (and iron!) to transfer from placenta to baby.
• Improved iron stores
• Better circulation
• Smoother transition to life outside the womb
Even 30–60 seconds can make a difference. ⏳

🤱 First Latch
Early nursing helps:
• Stimulate milk production
• Release oxytocin
• Contract the uterus
• Increase bonding with mother and baby 🤱

✨ Why the First Hour Matters ✨

This hour sets the tone.
Hormones are high.
Baby is adjusting.
Your body is responding.

Protecting this time (when medically possible) supports bonding, breastfeeding, and a calmer transition for everyone. 🥰

Birth doesn’t end when baby arrives. ✨

How dilated are you? Feels like the BIG question in labor.

Here’s the thing, your cervix is not a crystal ball 🔮

You can walk around 3-4cm for weeks.
You can be 0cm and have a baby the next day.
You can be 8cm in active labor and not have your baby for hours.

Your cervix is just one tiny piece of the puzzle — not a countdown clock ⏰

Cervical checks don’t predict:
✨ when labor will start
✨ how long labor will last
✨ how “good” you are at laboring
✨ whether your body is preparing correctly

Checks can be useful information if you want it. Or if you need help making next step decisions.

Not all breech babies are positioned the same 🤰

✨ Frank Breech — baby’s bottom is down with feet up by their head
✨ Complete Breech — bottom down, legs crossed
✨ Footling Breech — one or both feet positioned to come first

This is why knowing baby’s positioning before 36 weeks can be so important 👶

The earlier you know, the more time you may have to explore options like:
🤍 body balancing + positioning exercises
🤍 chiropractic care
🤍 spinning babies techniques
🤍 discussing next steps with your provider

Babies can still move and turn late in pregnancy too ✨

The BIG question in pregnancy 🤰✨
“When are you due?”

BUT youdue date is really more like a guess date. Babies don’t always follow calendars 🗓️

Just because it’s your due date doesn’t mean baby is ready yet ⌛️

Many healthy pregnancies naturally go beyond their estimated due date. As long as baby and mama are medically doing well, there is no need to rush labor just bc baby is past due. 💨

A few gentle ways to relieve stress surrounding your due date:

-Announce a month, not a specific date: leaves much less room for pressure and constant check-ins. 🗓️

-Let family and friends know it’s an estimate: your due date is not an expiration date 😉🫶

Your body and your baby are working together on their own timeline ✨

Prodromal Labor
Let’s talk prodromal labor.

What is prodromal labor?
These are contractions that aren’t Braxton hicks, but do not make change to your cervix. These often occur in late third trimester, and can come up off and on for days or weeks before birth.

Even if the cervix isn’t changing, the “practice contractions” can still be brining your baby down, toning your uterine muscles, or to help baby find a better position.

These can often feel like real deal contractions, and they are. However, it may not mean it is time to go in to the hospital.

Which is why is it’s important to know:
-when and how to time contractions
-the signs of true active labor

Why does having an empowering birth matter?

How you give birth and how you remember your birth matters. Not just to have the beautiful pictures and memories of bringing your baby earthside 🌎 How you perceive your birth can affect you and your baby even in the future.

Benefits to having an empowering birth:
- Better bonding with baby
- Higher chance of successful breastfeeding
- Reduced risk of postpartum depression & anxiety
- Reduced healing time

No matter the type of birth you plan to have (or end up having) you can still have an empowering birth. Knowing you exhausted all of your options, made informed choices, & had the power to say yes/no when you felt was necessary, makes all the difference in your birth experience.

It is so much more than “as long as baby is here & healthy”. Empowered mama = happy baby 🤍

When prepping for labor and birth, you want to make sure you go in with a stocked tool box. No, not a real tool box 😅 but a metaphorical tool box of ways to help you along your labor and birth journey. Some examples are:

- massage techniques
- Breathing techniques
- Massage
- Position change
- Calming music
- TENS unit
- Hiring a doula
- Epidural
- IV pain meds
- Nitrous Oxide

All of these are “tools” that allow for a smooth and safe delivery. You could use none of them, or you could use all of them. That is up to you. You don’t go into parenthood unprepared, the same should be for birth. Build your toolbox for a better birth. 🛠️🔧🪛

Postpartum rest isn’t about being extra, it’s about ✨healing✨ from the inside out.

During the postpartum time, you will have a dinner plate sized wound on your uterus from where your placenta once was. This takes (at least) six weeks to heal.

Your hormone levels go from skyrocketing to plummeting instantly. Which will take a toll mentally and has TONS of weird bodily effects.

You’re finding a new normal. Whether you are a first time mom or 5th time mom, there will always be an adjustment when adding another baby into the mix.

Give yourself grace and time. ✨🤍⏳
