5 silly habits that keep my plants alive & thriving:

I check them every morning as a part of my routine. This makes me feel prouder of the smallest growth, but also helps me catch pests and other issues early.
I grow my plants in a mix of semi-hydroponics and soil so not everything needs a weekly water.
I fertilize every payday (biweekly). This is the only way I’ve been able to be consistent & it shows.
I don’t get upset when a plant dies. This one took awhile for me personally, but now that it isn’t as hard to say goodbye to a plant that just isn’t thriving, I’m so much happier and so are my other plants.
I’m not perfect with my plant care. I forget waterings. I don’t clean my plants regularly enough. I keep them in too low of light at times. But, healthy plants come from consistency, not perfection.

These might be obvious to some, but they definitely weren’t for me when I first started taking care of plants. It’s all about growth here 😉

Ngl one of my favorite things to drone on about is fertilizer. There is so much to know, and I’m always learning more! This is a basic guide for my Black Thumb Bootcampers. For those of you with a fertilizer you love, drop it in the comments.

Tomorrow we’ll be covering how and when to fertilize.

08/28/2026

Why should you fertilize?

Your potted plants can’t extend their root systems to find the nutrients they need. Instead, they rely on you to provide them. When you don’t fertilize, your plant won’t be as resilient. It might still grow, and even flourish, but unless you are changing its soil regularly, it’ll struggle from the lack of nutrients, especially during our low light seasons.

By fertilizing, you help your plant become stronger against changes to temperature, lighting, and watering. Plus, you might finally see some consistent blooms!

Drop in the comments all your fertilizing questions. Today is day 1 of a 3 part series all about how & why to fertilize. Tomorrow we’ll cover what fertilizer to use.

Because when times are tough, of course a new plant helps! 🤷‍♀️

I think what I love most about plant people is their resilience. Everyone I’ve met who really loves plants, has at least one plant they are always battling with, one they just don’t know why it’s doing so well, one they’ve tried & failed with at least a half dozen times. But none of them give up just because plant care can be hard at times, not fruitful, or overwhelming. Getting to be around people like that, like you, every day is what motivates me to keep trying, to keep pushing as a small business owner. It’s tough out there right now. We are all feeling it. But just like the plant person we are, my dad & I keep going.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our small business. It’s because of you we are here.
