Just put up the drawings from the first "Footsteps of our Elders" project. These were done by residents of Riverview Retirement Community. Chaplan Yvette Schock.is bringing artists to the community for the purpose of engaging the senses and connecting to spirit and nature.

Working with various wet and dry mediums, residents were asked to reflect on their feet, how they connect to Earth, what journeys they've enabled one to take and the sensations of various surfaces they come in contact with.

After another group has completed their drawings, I'll be working to create a unified piece that will hang near the chapel and dining hall.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to step (haha)out of my comfort zone in an effort to bring meaningful moments to people nearing the end of their life. I am also grateful to for all her help both preparing and delivering the project.

I haven't spent much time with people at this stage, whether because our culture refuses to embrace all stages of life or simply because of circumstance, I can't know. The experience has certainly had an impact on me that I think will affect how I prepare for my transition to elderhood..

River of Tears A lot of anxieties come with being human, including the worry that we aren’t doing enough. It’s hard to be inspired to make change when uncertainty about our planet’s climate looms overhead and takes up precious brain space. To help navigate this unique grief, local artist Elyse...

Grief and pain are normal reactions to climate change and all that it implies.

You are invited to join together in community to share your particular experience moving through this strange time and contribute to the River of Tears sculpture, a living memorial intended to act as a vessel for our pain, confusion, anger etc... and a way to move through it to whatever lies on the other side.

"We are not people protecting nature. WE are Nature protecting itself." Casey Camp-Horinek, leader of the Ponca Tribe.

River of Tears workshops are small groups, about 12 people, coming together to create safe and sacred space in which to acknowledge their experience of living in an age defined by climate change.

You are guided through the process of wet felting a tear which will become a part of the sculpture.

There is opportunity to share your thoughts and experience, but it is not required.

If you have questions please PM me.

You are invited to participate in the making of a living memorial to this unique moment in time:

We begin in ritual creating a safe and sacred space for you to explore your personal grief and anxiety as they relate to the changing climate.

This exploration happens individually, mostly in silence and through the process of a wet felting a tear.

Your tear is meant to hold your grief and will become part of the River of Tears sculpture.
