Autumn light does something good to pale oak, and the Ho**er Banyon Bay Buffet is made to catch it.

Set against olive walls and a window full of turning trees, it looks like it belongs there. Soft grain, warm brass and an open-loop base that lifts it off the floor. A concrete top on a wood base sounds like an odd pairing until you set a cup of coffee on one.

The Mason tables from Kincaid's Modern Classics collection put a cool, honest concrete surface over a warm wood frame with crossbraced sides. Some patterns get passed down. This one is set in walnut and maple.

Stickley's Hudson Valley collection looks back at the makers behind traditional Americana, the quilters, the Shaker cabinetmakers, the chairmakers who turned spindles by hand, and carries their work into the present. The star marquetry is drawn from American quilt patterns and cut in walnut, maple, and black-dyed veneer. Everything else is American black walnut in a deep Dark Roast finish with natural maple accents. It's warm, familiar, and just a little unexpected, which suits the Inland Northwest well.

Dining: a 54-inch round table that opens to 86 inches with two leaves, spindle-back dining chairs, a glass-front server, and a quilt-pattern lazy Susan for the middle of it all
