I’m nearing the point where the first batch of these towels needs to come off the loom. As the fabric wrap around the cloth beam and the roll gets bigger, it starts to interfere with the first shaft. One or two more towels and then it’s time to cut the first batch off.

Finally getting the snow they promised us last weekend. Our new cat* doesn’t seem bothered.

*He showed up at our house about a week ago and inserted himself into feeding time next to our other cats. He hasn’t left since and is acting like he’s been here all along.

Not a whole lot of weaving getting done this week while we work on rehabbing one of our sweet ladies who got attacked by a hawk a few days ago. 😞

She has really come a long way considering I thought for sure she was dead when I found her. This is her “good” side and despite the blinking, I don’t think she can see out of this eye and it’s the only one she has left, hence the need to spoon feed her while she relearns how to find food. Poor baby. 😢

I just dropped this collection of box bags in my online shop. I first wove the outer fabric using 100% cotton, and then sewed the bags with an inner lining that matches the handle. Beautiful, functional, one-of-a-kind. It’s where art and craft intersect, and exactly where I love to create.

I really wasn’t kidding about all the warp ends I need to repair on this one as I weave. I always try to do it at the beginning/end of a towel so it gets trimmed when I cut them apart rather than having to do it in the middle of the fabric. In this case, the green stripe is my divider between towels. So far I have woven five towels and repaired 9 ends. So frustrating!

I should note again, the need to repair warp ends here is all due to human error and miscalculation on my end when winding bobbins for sectional warping and has nothing to do with breakage or the quality of the yarn I’m using. It’s simply that I measured sloppily and had to tie on (a lot of) new warp threads at inopportune moments while warping, and now I get to suffer the consequences. Live and learn.

This warp gave me so much more trouble than it should have! And it was all user error. Mental note: do not do your calculations when you’re sick.

I had to rewind so many bobbins because I didn’t wind off enough yardage to complete the warp sections, so there are thread joins all over in here that will need to be dealt with as I weave. I’m going to keep count as I weave my way through this warp because I will genuinely be surprised if I have less than 70 repairs when all is said and done.

I was hoping for a simple, straightforward project and it’s already turning into more than I bargained for. Let’s hope the end result is worth it!
