Escutcheons like these, can make the peace. Reproductions are of course better than using modern hardware, but nothing beats the old solid brass hardware. And it’s not so much that you want these to be noticed, but rather you don’t, you want them just to blend in and compliment not distract.

The finish. Did a little carving repair, just enough to hopefully not make it noticeable. Use the clear shellac, which should provide plenty of protection, and it can be reversed at any time.

Back in the saddle with a small project. The idea is not to totally restore, but just to give this a new finish and of course a new upholstered seat with correct fabric for the era.  This bo***ir chair is the waterfall design from around the 30s. All Waterfall furniture is considered Art deco, but very little valuable art deco furniture is waterfall design. But benches, especially those with arms, I could always sell, they are the most popular pieces in the waterfall collection. It’s sad, but the hardware on waterfall pieces is often nice bakeware and brass, and are worth more than the whole dresser.
