My non verbal daughter made this withs her own hands. A kind word from you could mean more to her. I thought this moody community would appreciate her!
My daughter is 13 and she's never spoken. Not one word. Non-verbal since birth, and every doctor tells us to focus on "realistic expectations." School is brutal. Kids talk around her like she's furniture, teachers treat her like she's broken. She comes home and disappears into her room, and I've been terrified I'm losing her.
Six months ago she started taking things. My old buttons, bottle caps, wire from my craft supplies. I thought she was just organizing them for comfort, the way her therapist said she does when overwhelmed. Then I noticed my hot glue gun was missing.
Last week she came out carrying this. An entire garden of button flowers in mason jars, hundreds of them on wire stems. Every color imaginable, arranged like she'd been planning it in her head for months. Not random. Intentional. My non-verbal daughter had created something so beautiful I couldn't stop crying.
I posted it in a crafting group on the Tedooo app where I sell my pottery to help with her therapy costs. Woke up to 312 comments. People asking for custom orders, teachers wanting to display her work. A woman who runs a button shop on Tedooo sent five pounds of buttons free, said she believes in young artists who create without words.
My daughter read every comment, then took my phone, opened Tedooo, and pointed at "create shop." Then pointed at herself. She wants to sell her work. She wants people to see what she can do when they're not busy deciding what she can't.
Those kids at school who treat her like she's nothing? They're about to see her name on something extraordinary. A kind word from you could mean everything to her.
