It's Fall Back Time!

Reminder to turn your clocks back by 1 hour before going to bed tonight. Daylight savings ends at 2 AM on November 6.

You may have heard the old proclamation, โ€œWe get an extra hour of sleep!โ€ in November.

Yes, November daylight saving time ending means a bit more sleep when the clock remains in position for another hour. In other words, less daylight as we head into the colder months.

Winston Churchill once described daylight saving time as...

โ€œAn extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn is all that we ask in return for dazzling gifts. We borrow an hour one night in April; we pay it back with golden interest five months later.โ€

Happy Halloween!

The Halloween tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints in the eighth century. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain.

The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween.

Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes, and eating treats.

Don't overeat candy tonight ๐Ÿ˜„

Trick or Treat!

Happy Columbus Day!

Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday commemorating Christopher Columbus's landing in the Americas in 1492, and Columbus Day 2022 occurs on Monday, October 10.

It was unofficially celebrated in several cities and states as early as the 18th century but did not become a federal holiday until 1937.

For many, the holiday is a way of honoring Columbusโ€™ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage.

But throughout its history, Columbus Day and the man who inspired it have generated controversy. Many alternatives to the holiday have been proposed since the 1970s, including Indigenous People's Day, now celebrated in many U.S. states and cities.

Happy World Smile Day!

World Smile Day celebrates the ever-popular yellow smiley. As is well known now throughout the world, Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts, created the smiley face in 1963. That image became the most recognizable symbol of goodwill and good cheer on the planet.

It also offers us an opportunity to do an act of kindness. According to the World Smile Day website, the U.S. Congress made a proclamation of this day. Now that should put a smile on your face.

The smiley face became so popular that the U.S. Post Office issued a stamp with the smiley face.

World Smile Day intends to do an act of kindness or help one person smile. Why not do both!?

The yellow smiley stands brightly smiling upon this day, offering its stamp of approval.
