The first blow dryer was invented in 1888 by French hairstylist Alexandre-Ferdinand Godefroy. Unlike the handheld dryers we use today, it was a giant hood connected to a stove that blew warm air over a client’s hair.

Three years ago, Primrose started as a dream built on beauty, creativity, old souls, and meaningful connection.

Since then, these walls have held so many stories — fresh hair transformations, hard conversations, belly laughs, happy tears, antique treasures finding the right homes, and people who walked in as clients and left feeling like family.

Small businesses are never built by one person alone. They’re built by every appointment booked, every item purchased, every share, every recommendation, every kind word, and every person who chose to walk through the door.

That “fresh hair” feeling isn’t in your head — it’s in your brain chemistry. Research shows that appearance-based self-care, including salon grooming, can positively influence psychological well-being by improving mood, self-esteem, and feelings of relaxation and social confidence.

A peer-reviewed study in Frontiers in Psychology found that salon grooming experiences (specifically nail care in a salon setting) significantly increased positive emotions, relaxation, and psychological “vitalization,” and also supported improvements in self-esteem through the simple act of being cared for in a grooming environment (Kawakubo & Oguchi, 2023).
