Beautifully carved oak Cabinetry with original hardware, Machine and Box of Accessories.
A little history: As advertised in the 1890's: "Wheeler & Wilson, Manufacturers of the finest sewing machines in the world."
This machine is in excellent condition for its one hundred plus years and was built to last a lifetime and beyond. The restored carved cabinet and machine shroud present fine detail and finish.
Beginning in 1850 Alan Wilson designed and built sewing machines that revolutionized the domestic sewing industry dominating home lockstitch sewing machines. Wilson's unique W9 rotary hook mechanism operates in smooth circles, picking up the top thread from the needle, twisting it with a thread from the bobbin and letting it go. Many modern machines still use the mechanism.
The Singer Corporation took over Wheeler and Wilson in 1905 and continued to produce the Model No. 9 machine under its own brand name until at least 1913.
Isaac Singer became one of the richest men of his age, all built on the back of one of the greatest inventions of the 19th century, the W9.
