Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and a recognition of the end of slavery in the United States.

Today, we honor the strength, resilience, culture, and contributions of Black Americans whose impact can be seen in every part of our communities and our country.

As we celebrate, we also take time to appreciate the progress that has been made, the stories that deserve to be remembered, and the people who continue to make our communities stronger every day.

Happy Juneteenth, friends. 🖤❤️💛💚

A quick update for our Dunkington family regarding the upcoming Main Street Revitalization Project – Phase 6!

As construction continues to move forward, the Main Street and South Lafayette Street intersection is tentatively scheduled to close in early July for roughly 4 weeks, weather permitting. We're sharing this information now so everyone has plenty of time to prepare for the temporary traffic changes.

When we learned an intersection closure was coming, we asked if there was a way to avoid completely cutting off vehicle access to the businesses along South Lafayette Street. After reviewing the site conditions and construction needs, the City of Starkville, MS worked to find the best possible solution, and we're grateful they took the time to listen to the concerns of South Lafayette business owners.

Under the current plan, traffic will still be able to access South Lafayette Street from the Lampkin Street intersection. Vehicles will travel along a temporary driving lane created on top of the eastern row of parking spaces and continue toward Main Street. Once reaching the end of South Lafayette, drivers will make a U turn and return toward Lampkin Street, where they will yield to incoming traffic before exiting. Parking will continue to be available along the west side of South Lafayette.

Will it be different? Absolutely.
Will it require a little extra patience? Definitely.

But most importantly, businesses along South Lafayette will remain accessible throughout this phase of construction, and that is the most important part.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to the City of Starkville for hearing our concerns and working to find the best possible outcome for what is undoubtedly a challenging construction project.

The finish line is finally starting to come into view for the project as a whole. Until then, please be patient, be kind, and continue supporting your favorite local businesses. Every visit, purchase, and word of encouragement helps more than you know.

We'll continue sharing updates as more information becomes available.

Black Barrel is officially rolling into June for the Dunkington Candle Club.

This scent is dark, smooth, and ridiculously good with notes of powder, tonka bean, and rum. It’s giving aged barrel wood, midnight lounge, expensive cologne, and “don’t touch my lowball glass” energy.

If you’ve never joined our Candle Club before, here’s the deal: for $20/month, members get an exclusive 3.5oz candle shipped directly to them every month. These scents are created specifically for Candle Club members and are not released in-store or online to the general public. Once the month is over, that scent is gone.

If you want Black Barrel to show up at your door in June, you’ll need to sign up by 5/31!

Graduation week is finished, which means Starkville officially did its yearly disappearing act. The caps were thrown, the apartments got packed up, major sporting events have wound down, and a huge chunk of downtown foot traffic headed home for the summer.

For local businesses, this is the part of the year where things get a whole lot quieter.

So if you’ve been meaning to swing by your favorite local shops, grab that candle you’ve been thinking about, wander downtown for a bit, or just say hey… now’s a great time to do it. Every purchase made locally during slower seasons genuinely matters more than most people realize.

We’d love to see y’all downtown this summer. Shop local, support handmade, and help keep the lights on for the unique little businesses that make Starkville feel like Starkville!
