October 11th 2:30pm-4:30pm
Celebrate the beauty of the season with watercolor! This class is inspired by Nature Shared, the University W**e Company’s October Artist-of-the-Month gallery featuring the nature-inspired artwork of Sarah Zappe and her mother, Barbara Rzasa. This relaxed workshop invites you to slow down, notice the details of autumn, and create your own interpretation of the natural world.

Sarah, owner of Kaleidoscope PA, will bring a collection of fall inspiration, including leaves, acorns, seedpods, mushrooms, and other seasonal treasures. Participants can choose what inspires them and create their own watercolor nature study. She’ll demonstrate approachable techniques for capturing autumn colors, shapes, and textures and share examples for inspiration, including this whimsical mushroom watercolor painted by her mother.

No watercolor experience is necessary. Come enjoy a glass of w**e, experiment with watercolor, and discover what catches your eye in nature. All materials are provided.

Register online at University W**e Company. Link in bio.

Oooh, just got these adorable watercolor swatching stamps for the Kaleidoscope PA shop! I never really enjoyed swatching paint colors, but when I saw these, I thought this could be a game changer for people like me! I love the idea of making something beautiful while I test the paint colors I own. Plus, Kristy Rice Joyful Watercolor for Beginners is a PA company! These will be in the Kaleidoscope PA shop…which will be open for workshop attendees on October 9…and a pop-up for the public on October 17! 🥰

✨ Our first classes in the new Kaleidoscope PA space!

We have two chances to take a block printing class in Kaleidoscope PA’s brand-new space at the Center for Well-Being in Lemont!

And the first one is extra special: if you join us on October 9, you’ll officially be among the very first people to see and create in our new space! 🥰

Both workshops will be taught by my fabulous friend Michael Monko of The Mossy Beetle, who will guide you through the process of designing, carving, and printing your own block.

✨ Two dates to choose from
✨ Beginner-friendly
✨ Small, cozy classes
✨ All about experimenting, making, and having fun

Space is limited, especially in our new little studio, so grab your spot early!

Come a little early to do some shopping and get first dibs on some of the creative reuse stuff I’ve been collecting to help support the start up of

I seriously cannot wait to welcome people through those doors for the first time. ❤️

Exciting things are happening! 🎨♻️

We’re in the process of securing a 2,000+ square-foot space in Lemont for a new creative reuse and community art space!

We have lots of big ideas—and we’re going to need the help and support of our community to bring them to life. 💛

Stay tuned for ways to get involved! In the meantime, give us a follow and tell us: Are you as excited about this as we are?! 🙌

600 followers! 🥰 Seems like a good time to introduce myself.

Hi! I’m Sarah, the person behind Kaleidoscope PA. I’m an educational psychologist, artist, teacher, and a believer in the connection between art and well-being.

In fact, that connection is the foundation of Kaleidoscope PA. The growing field of neuroaesthetics is providing research support for something artists and makers have intuitively known for a very long time: making and experiencing art can be good for our mental and physical health. I’m fascinated by that intersection of research, art, and wellness.

I also believe we are all artists and creators. Somewhere along the way, we created a lot of rules about who gets to call themselves an artist, what counts as art, and whether something is “good” enough to have value. I want Kaleidoscope to push back against that. Creativity belongs to all of us.

My goal is to create opportunities for people to make things, play, experiment, connect with others, and experience the health and wellness benefits of creativity.

I also care deeply about sustainability and making a difference in my community, which has led me toward creative reuse…keeping good materials out of the landfill, making art supplies more accessible, and seeing possibility in things other people no longer need.

And somewhere in all of that, I’ve developed a slight obsession with estate sales, vintage art supplies, old paper, and delightfully unusual objects. 😂 That part wasn’t exactly in the original plan.

Now I have my first little space in Lemont where I get to bring it all together: art, health, community, sustainability, and curiosity.

And I think it’s kind of fabulous that follower #600 was the wonderful Arcadian Vintage (Arcadian Consignment Co.) which has been fueling some of those recent estate-sale adventures. 😂❤️

Thanks for being here. I’m excited about what’s next. Stay tuned!!!

Collage fans: this one is for you! This morning, I purchased the most amazing collection of vintage Hollywood ephemera at an estate sale with the fabulous Arcadian Vintage! 😍 Hundreds (seriously, HUNDREDS!) of pages from someone’s 1940s scrapbooking hobby—movie stars, magazine pages, pin-ups, photos, and hand-cut collages.

I’ve been having so much fun going through it all, and some of it will be making its way into the Creative Reuse section at Kaleidoscope PA.

I mean…can you imagine the collage possibilities?!? Should we have a vintage Hollywood themed class? Should I make vintage collage packets? I am so excited! 🤩

What would you make with it? ✂️✨

One of my favorite parts of the new Kaleidoscope PA space will be our Creative Reuse items—interesting, affordable art and craft materials that are too good to throw away and ready for their next creative life.

Like these Vintage Trimmings Bundles that I’ve been putting together! Each bundle includes an assortment of vintage lace, ribbon, eyelet, and other trims, with pieces approximately two feet long.

Use them for collage and mixed media, art journals, handmade cards, fabric art, visible mending, slow stitching, gift wrapping, ornaments, or something else!

What would you make with a bundle of vintage trimmings?

Some more sneak preview photos! I stopped by the Lemont space today to drop off some things. It feels so peaceful. And I’ve been having fun taking photos of the little touches. Still not ready for the public, but it’s starting to show how lovely it’s going to be!!!!
