Hi, I’m Carol Thompson, the artist and maker behind Moosenaround Quilts, where every quilt is lovingly pieced and quilted in my home studio. My sewing journey began in 2001 with a sweet little Singer sewing machine. We stitched side by side for over 20 years until it was finally time for her to retire. I created my first t-shirt quilt in 2017, and since then, I’ve been honored to turn cherished cl

othing into meaningful, memory-filled keepsakes for families near and far. Each quilt tells a story. Customers often share the special memories tied to their clothing, and I pour that love into every stitch. Seeing their reactions—often with tears and smiles—is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. It’s truly a privilege to be trusted with something so personal and precious. When I’m not sewing, you’ll find me in the garden or out hiking with my husband Ramon, our two beautiful daughters, exploring the trails of our North Carolina mountains. I just loaded quilt #22 for 2026 into the dryer. I wash each and every quilt upon completion before I send her home.

How to care for your quilt.
-wash in cold water on a gentle cycle.
-use color catchers especially if you have RED fabric used in your quilt.
-avoid bleach. Bleach can fade colors in your quilt and may weaken fabric fibers.
-avoid direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fabrics to fade. This is especially true if you have older windows.
-dry on low heat or air dry.

This quilt was such a meaningful one to make. When Matt Williard and Amy Brant announced their engagement, I knew I wanted to create something truly special to celebrate their new beginning. I started gathering inspiration right away, eventually blending two quilt designs I loved into one pattern that felt just right for them.

The next step was gathering clothing pieces to include — and that required a little family teamwork. Thank you to Melissa Thomas (Rob) and Maddie for quietly sneaking me the pieces I needed. Once everything was in hand, I realized one quilt wasn’t enough. I decided to make two, each with its own story.

This quilt began with a single men’s button‑down shirt from Matt’s dad. I carried it with me to Robey's Fabrics, Inc., where I found the perfect soft yellow to bring a gentle, feminine touch to the design. In the center, I hand‑embroidered the couple’s names and wedding date.

It’s always emotional making that first cut into clothing that carries so much meaning — especially when I have a personal connection to both the person the clothing belonged to and the loved ones receiving the quilt. Tears were shed when this quilt was gifted, and to me, that’s the truest sign of a job well done. ❤️

Every now and then, a project comes along that feels extra meaningful. This quilt began as a nearly 50‑year‑old treasure—soft from years of love, frayed at the edges, and missing a few pieces. My customer asked me to preserve what I could and then weave those original pieces together with t‑shirts that held their own special stories.
The result is a beautiful blend of past and present, and I’m so grateful to have been trusted with the transformation. Thank you to my sweet repeat customer for bringing this treasure to me for reimagining. Carol Thompson Amy Windsor Graham

The sewing room was a little fuller today in the best way. While I finished a customer quilt, my oldest daughter helped piece my next QOV. Quiet moments, shared hands, and meaningful projects — it all adds up to a really good day.

I make a lot of T‑shirt memory quilts, but t-shirts are just the beginning. Over the years I’ve stitched quilts from all kinds of clothing — pajamas, jeans, rompers, work shirts, button‑ups, even boxers.

This little collection shows memory quilts made in more traditional quilt patterns, each one filled with stories and moments tucked into every piece. So many memories stitched together in these quilts.
