Steamboat locals,

The fire near Mt. Werner is certainly not what any of us wanted to see. Combined with the drought following a devastating winter, it’s understandable that many people are very concerned.

At the same time, it’s extremely important that we don’t allow fear or misinformation by the news or social media to overshadow the reality of what’s actually happening here.

Steamboat is open, beautiful, and our community is ready to welcome visitors!

Tourism is the lifeblood of our local economy. Our small businesses, restaurants, hotels, guides, retail shops, and countless local families depend on visitors choosing Steamboat for their vacations. When news coverage or social media paints an inaccurate or overly alarming picture, it can discourage travel and have lasting economic consequences for our community. It already has!

We all want accurate, responsible reporting that informs people without creating unnecessary fear. We’ve seen how damaging public perception can be to mountain towns, even when the reality on the ground is far less severe.

Yes…I’m concerned about our own business. But I’m also concerned for the countless locals that rely on tourism to feed their families!!

Now is the time to support our local businesses, share the beauty of our community, and remind people that Steamboat is still the incredible destination we all know and love.

Let’s stand together, support one another, and help ensure our town continues to thrive. Don’t allow inaccurate, over exaggerated reports ruin our summer business!
