A full year of shelter volunteer. I always refer to them as the unlucky ones, animals that for some reason or another have ended up homeless- death or illness of their owner, financial hardship, divorce, loss of a home, strays who belonged to irresponsible owners, abused and dumped, or just no longer wanted. It’s heartbreaking. These shelter dogs belong to all of us while they’re homeless. They deserve to feel hope, love and comfort so that’s just what I do. I go to the shelter to give them time out of their kennel, walk them, cuddle them, take them on field trips, bring them home every now and then and work my ass off to try to do what I can to give them exposure and visibility in hopes that they’ll find their way out to a better life. There are hard days but mostly very rewarding days and I can’t imagine not doing everything I can to help these voiceless souls. If you don’t think you can do it I’m here to say you totally can. They need more of us to step up and fight for them. Their lives are so worth it. #shelter #volunteering #princewilliamcounty

BOOM 💥 Life has been a bit wild lately. Here are some highlights from an eventful spring into summer.

From pain point to functional beauty 😍 One of our biggest pain points at home was our lack of fridge space in the kitchen for our family of four… the constant running in and out of the garage was a pain! I’m sure many can relate. With no plans to reno our semi-custom build kitchen insight, we enlisted the assistance of a few of our favorite vendors to transform our sparsely used mudroom into something more useful for our particular needs… a scullery!
We knew this would alleviate our issues, so we worked with ADU, Your Appliance Source to source the perfect Miele fridge/freezer columns that would hold overflow. We spec’d a beauty of a faucet and larger sink from our friends at KOHLER. We also brought in cabinet maker extraordinaire Lukas from Innovative Builds & Remodel to make the gorgeous inset cabs and United Granite and Marble for the marble countertop. Once it was completed, we layered in a vintage rug sourced a while back from our girl Heather District Loom.
This, my friends, is how you make a semi-custom home custom!!

Nobody should be working late this week! Here’s to sipping on something yummy like this Mint Strawberry Moscow Mule all weekend long 🍓🌿
Ingredients:
4 Strawberries stem removed and cut into half
2-3 Sprigs of fresh Mint
60 ml Vodka
Juice of a Lime
120 ml Ginger beer
How to:
Add strawberries and mint leaves to a glass and muddle till the strawberries are broken down into tiny pieces. Add ice, vodka and lime juice, then top with ginger beer. Stir to mix well. Serve immediately.

Not exactly sure what Hozier put in this song... but it makes us want to drink! And while this might not be whiskey, this refreshing Champagne Mojito Recipe with Grapefruit from Cooks and Cocktails is What’s Shakin’ this week and will have you wanting to refill the glass all weekend long 🍹
Ingredients:
4-5 mint leaves
2 oz white rum
2 oz fresh grapefruit Juice
1 tbsp simple syrup
1 tbsp lime juice
4 oz sparkling wine or you can use club soda
How to: Add the rum, mint, and grapefruit juice to a highball glass. Add the lime juice and the simple syrup. Muddle it all up until the mint is slightly broken up. Fill the glass with ice. Top with sparkling wine. Add a sprig of mint for garnish before serving. 🍾
Ok, we’ll just be over here drinking this all day!

What's Shakin' this weekend? Just in time for #CincoDeMayo, it's the Classic Paloma. This light and refreshing drink is the perfect to celebrate this weekend 🇲🇽
Ingredients:
- Juice from half of a ruby grapefruit
- 1.5 shots of Tequila
-0.5 shots of agave or simple syrup
- 75 ml of club soda
-A squirt of fresh lime juice
How to:
Salt the rim and fill the cup with ice. Mix the grapefruit juice, tequila, and agave until well mixed. Top it off with soda water and a squirt of lime juice.
Add a lime wheel as garnish & Buen Provecho! 🤠
