We have customers who still have the original shutters from decades ago in their homes. However, we can make interior shutters from other hardwoods such as red or white oak (rift-, quarter- and plain sawn), walnut, beetle kill pine, alder, knotty alder, ash, cherry, knotty pine, mahogany, and many others. Kirtz® shutters are carefully crafted to accentuate the individuality of your home. We use only hardwood and the best paints and stains for durability. The stiles on our shutters are strong and warp-resistant. Thanks to the use of Old World Joinery, a Kirtz® Shutter can never come apart. The elliptical louvers provide superior temperature and light control. The sculptured tiltrod has a substantial feel and works without fail. Our tensioning system ensures that the shutter looks good, no matter how often you open and close the louvers. Kirtz® Shutters crafts shutters with moveable or fixed louvers, no matter the shape the opening.

🏡 Your Curb Appeal Has One Job. Make It Count.

The first impression of any home is made from the street.

Before anyone sees the interior, the floors, the custom work inside — they see the exterior.

And exterior shutters are one of the few elements that can instantly elevate or underwhelm that first impression.

Most exterior shutters on the market are thin, undersized, and clearly never meant to be taken seriously. They're stamped from composite or vinyl, sized to fit nothing in particular, and installed as an afterthought.

We build exterior shutters that are architecturally correct — sized to the actual window, constructed from cedar, finished with the same attention we bring to our interior work. They're decorative, but they're built to look like they mean it. Proportioned properly, they read as part of the home's original design rather than something tacked on after the fact.

Cedar is our material of choice for exterior work — naturally resistant to moisture and temperature swings, holds paint and stain beautifully, ages with character. The construction is built to the same standard as everything else that leaves our shop.

When a home has exterior shutters that are right — proportioned to the window, built to last, finished with intention — it shows. It reads as quality before anyone walks through the door.

🏛️ From Our Portfolio: A Maple Sunburst, Built for New York.

This is a full semicircular sunburst shutter — solid maple, 107" wide by 52" tall — photographed on the shop floor in 2014, the day it was ready to ship.

The radiating louvers follow the geometry from center to arch, each one cut to the precise length and angle required by the curve.

The inner half-circle panel, the curved outer frame, the consistent reveal between every louver — this is the kind of work that requires more than a template. It requires knowing exactly what you're doing before the first cut.

This piece was built for a home in New York. It left our shop in Stillwater, Oklahoma and landed on a wall across the country because someone wanted it built right.

Thirty-five years and we're still building to that standard.

If you have an architectural window that's never had a real solution — arched, circular, sunburst, or otherwise — start the conversation.

⚙️ When the Window Is Big, Every Decision Gets More Consequential.

Most shutter sizing conversations are straightforward. Standard windows in standard openings have well-established solutions.

But when the window is large — tall double-hung, wide picture windows, floor-to-ceiling glass, oversize casements — the decisions compound quickly.

Louver Size Matters More at Scale
On a standard 28" wide window, louver size is primarily a visual preference. On a 60" wide window, it's structural. Larger louvers on a wide panel carry more stress across the tilt rod and the stile. At a certain point, the panel itself needs to be divided — which is a different conversation.

Panel Width Has Engineering Limits
A shutter panel that's too wide will sag, warp, or rack over time. Standard shutter panels run 9" to 25" wide. For wider openings, more panels are required — which means panel count, configuration, and meeting point all need to be planned intentionally.

This isn't a limitation; it's the reason properly built shutters last decades.

The Meeting Point on Wide Openings
When multiple panels meet across a wide opening, the meeting point placement affects both function and appearance. Centered meetings look intentional. Off-center meetings can look like an error. We plan these before production.

Large windows are an architectural asset.
Custom shutters built to their scale reinforce that.
Off-the-shelf solutions shrink the window visually rather than completing it.

✨ The Roman Shade, Perfected.

There's a reason the Roman shade has been a design staple for decades — the clean fabric folds, the soft tailored look, the way it transforms a window into a design moment. It's a classic that works in almost every room.

Hunter Douglas took that classic and rebuilt it from the inside out.

Vignette® Modern Roman Shades use a precision lift system that keeps the fabric folds uniform and flat every time — no bunching, no sagging, no uneven stacking that plagues most Roman shades after a year of daily use. The result is a shade that looks as refined on year five as it did when it was installed.

Available in dozens of fabric options from light-filtering sheers to room-darkening panels, in room-darkening and light-filtering versions, with blackout liner options for bedrooms and media rooms.

This is the kind of window treatment that makes a room feel finished.

🌌 May the 4th Be With Your Windows.

A long time ago, in a shop not so far away (Stillwater, Oklahoma, actually) — we started building shutters for windows that no one else could touch.

Arched tops. Full radius curves. Angled rakes. Circles, Octagons.

The shapes that make a home architecturally interesting are almost always the shapes that standard window treatment companies look at and say "we don't do that."

We do that. We've been doing that for over 35 years.

Every architectural shutter we build is custom-engineered to the exact geometry of the opening.
The curve isn't approximated.
The angles aren't fudged.
Each louver is cut to the precise length required by the shape — because a shutter
that fights its window is no shutter at all.

Whether your windows belong in a galaxy far, far away or right here in Oklahoma — we'll build something worthy of them.

🏠 The Window Treatment That Outlasts Everything Else.

Blinds get replaced.
Curtains get updated.
Fabric shades fade, sag, and eventually look like they've been there too long — because they have.

Custom wood shutters work differently.
They're built into the window.
Solid hardwood frames, precision-fit to the exact dimensions of each opening, finished to match the trim and character of the home.
When they're installed well, they look like they were always supposed to be there.

That's the standard we've held for over 35 years.
Not shutters that approximate your window size.
Not factory-produced panels in standard dimensions.

Shutters built from measurements taken in your home, constructed to fit the actual opening — including arched windows, angled frames, and openings that nothing off the shelf would ever fit correctly.

The question isn't whether you'll eventually replace your current window treatments. You will.
The question is whether you replace them with something that needs replacing again in five years, or something that's still there in thirty.

🏛️ This Is What It Looks Like When You Don't Take Shortcuts.

This oval sunburst panel came out of our shop — a custom architectural shutter build that required working out every angle, every spoke, every proportion by hand before a single piece of wood was cut.

The construction starts with the outer oval frame, built to precise measurements. Then the spokes — each one individually fit from the outer frame to the central ellipse, radiating at consistent angles around the full perimeter. The central oval is joined cleanly to every spoke it receives. There's no template for this. It's geometry and woodworking in the same conversation.

This is the kind of work that gets called "decorative" — but the craft behind it is anything but casual.
Every joint is tight.
Every spoke sits at the right angle.
The whole piece holds together because the math was right and the ex*****on matched it.

Over 35 years, this shop has built work like this because someone asked for it and we said yes.

That's still true.

🔇 Your Shutters Are Doing More Than You Think.

Most homeowners choose custom wood shutters for the light control.
The privacy.
The way they look.

What they don't always expect is what they notice a few weeks after installation: it's quieter.

Not soundproofed — shutters aren't acoustical panels.
But there's a meaningful difference between a single-pane glass window and that same window with a substantial solid wood shutter panel covering it.

Here's what's happening:
Wood is a natural sound absorber.
Where glass reflects sound waves, wood absorbs them.
A closed shutter panel — especially on a larger window — adds a layer of mass and material between your interior and whatever is happening outside.
Street traffic, lawn equipment, neighborhood noise.
It doesn't disappear, but it softens.

The effect is most noticeable on street-facing windows and in rooms where you spend time at rest — bedrooms, home offices, living rooms.
Homeowners in neighborhoods near busy roads or in homes with larger window expanses tend to notice it most.

Panel configuration matters too. A full-height shutter with solid panels closed provides more sound absorption than a café-style installation or open louvers.
The more coverage, the more material between you and the outside world.

It's not why most people order shutters.
But it's one of those things they mention when they tell their friends about them.

☀️ Spring in Oklahoma Doesn't Ask Permission.

One week it's a perfect evening on the porch.
The next it's 85 degrees, the wind is picking up, and the bugs have arrived ahead of schedule.
That's just how it works here.

Titan Screen gives you the ability to use your outdoor space on your terms — not the weather's.
Solar screens that cut glare and UV while keeping the view.
Insect screens that let the breeze through without everything else that comes with it. Motorized operation so your patio is ready in seconds, retracted just as fast when you don't need it.

This is the time of year when outdoor living either happens or it doesn't.
The right setup makes all the difference.

We're the exclusive Titan Screen dealer in Oklahoma and southern Kansas.
Every installation is custom-fitted to your space — no off-the-shelf sizing, no DIY assembly.

🌿 There's No Template for This.

Every piece of live-edge furniture we build starts the same way — with a slab that doesn't look like anything else on earth.
The grain, the curve of the natural edge, the way the wood moved as it grew.
No two are the same. No two ever will be.

That's the point.

Most furniture is manufactured to spec.
Same dimensions, same profile, same finish — produced in volume and distributed to whoever orders it.
Live-edge work is the opposite.
The wood dictates the shape. We build to honor what's already there.

A live-edge dining table, desk, or coffee table isn't just furniture.
It's a piece of material that existed as a living tree, milled with care, and finished to last generations.
It brings something into a home that genuinely cannot be replicated.

We've spent over 35 years building custom pieces for homes across Oklahoma.
If you've been looking for something that doesn't look like everyone else's, this is it.
