The plants I grew did amazing this year. I grew Carolina Reapers, Apocalypse Scorpions, and Ghost peppers. Also grew Red Habaneros, thia peppers, jalapeño, Gypsy, red and green papers.
It’s sad for me to announce that I can’t legally sell any pepper jellies at this time. If you would like some please private message me. Or text me at 1/208-935-5552. Please don’t call the number as I don’t answer calls from folks I may not know.
The states of Idaho and Washington have decided that it’s unsafe to make pepper jellies and to regulate all of it.
It’s not just paying the $160 yearly fee for the right to sell it but also the testing. $350 for each recipe and they also want 6 jars of each recipe I submit. And if I make different sizes it counts as different recipes...Ugggg....I have at least 15 different recipes. I don’t make enough from what I sell to justify these expenses. Plus I need to take a year long online producers class that I have no idea what the cost is. And then I need a commercial kitchen. Which means a whole different kitchen than what I have now. It means a extra one just to cook jams.
Honestly this is a hobby. I grow all the peppers and either grow the fruit or go forage for it and pick myself. There is no way I could keep the product the way I make it and do on a commercial scale. Nor do I want to. I love the challenge of growing the peppers and making something everyone loves. I have return customers each and every year.” I love my regular people. They truly make me feel so good about myself and my love of this hobby.
To the best of my knowledge I have never had anyone get sick from my pepper jellies. I strive to make sure they are amazing and safe to consume. I have been making these for 8-10 years now without a issue. I can make and give them to people but can’t technically sell them............
So I hope this helps. Tis the only way I know.......I am in need of a commercial kitchen and many fees to continue making my pepper jellies. So I am willing to give them away for a donation to help further the process of selling my jellies and jams legally....That would mean your jellies would be free but you would donate to my commercial kitchen and to funds to get all recipes tested. I can set up a separate account soon.....I can’t charge sales tax as you technically are not buying the jelly. So all free jellies will be marked, “Bootleg Jams”. Otherwise I can make ya plain fruit jams and jellies and give you free dried pepper packets of your choice that you can add to your fruit jelly. I kinda like the Bootleg idea but let me know what you think.
