I’m honored to be included in the Farnsworth Art Museum’s exhibition at the 365 Gallery, “A Craft of Their Own: Fine Woodworking in Maine”.
The 365 Gallery occupies a space in the building that formerly home to the Dowling Walsh gallery, which the Farnsworth Museum acquired this past summer. It now houses the museum’s educational gallery and connected design store, which will enhance the Farnsworth’s mission to connect art and community.
For this exhibition I created a new body of work titled the “Faro Series”, which includes a floor lamp and two pendants. The series is based on a system of modular forms that are repeated and assembled in different configurations. Alternating sections of Aspen and Western Red Cedar highlight the natural differences in color, grain, and translucency between the two woods.
The title “Faro” is a nod to the Pharos of Alexandria, the ancient lighthouse built in the third century BC which, at an estimated 330 ft., was once one of the world’s tallest human-made structures.
All of the artists in the show are connected in some way to the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship , either as students or faculty. They include: , Holly Berry, , , .art vanoot,
The show will be up until late May/early June. Please DM me if you’d like more info.
