i remember way back when this TWA terminal became the most futuristic airline hub

The atrium of Eero Saarinen’s TWA Terminal at JFK merges architecture and emotion through its dramatic design. The iconic split staircases, seamlessly integrated into the terminal’s organic curves, are highlighted by skylights flooding the space with natural light. The original vibrant red carpets, a signature feature, added a bold contrast to the white concrete and terrazzo, guiding travelers through the space with warmth and sophistication. Completed in 1962, this interior redefined airport design, offering a space that celebrated both the journey and the beauty of flight.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Claude Monet - “The Cliffs at Etretat, 1885”
Monet stood at the edge of the sea, before a cathedral of chalk and tide, and asked: what is light, really? Étretat answered. Claude Monet created around 80 paintings of Étretat in Normandy, France, between 1864 and 1886, drawn to its dramatic cliffs and changing light.

Case Study House #21 (1958), designed by Pierre Koenig in West Hollywood, is one of the purest expressions of mid-century modernism. As part of the Case Study House Program, it exemplifies the use of industrial materials—steel, glass, and concrete—to create an efficient, elegant, and affordable home. The corrugated steel ceiling isn't just an aesthetic gesture but a direct expression of prefabrication and industrial logic. The slender H-columns and I-beams establish a structural rhythm that defines and liberates the plan—allowing full-height glazed walls and an open, continuous flow between spaces. The couple depicted reinforces the aspirational narrative of postwar modern living: elegance without ornament, form following clarity of purpose, and architecture as a frame for modern life. This photo—famously shot by Julius Shulman—is as much about lifestyle as it is about tectonics.
CSH #21 is among the most iconic and rigorously executed steel-framed residences in the series—radically honest in its material expression and spatial clarity. Koenig’s mastery of structural simplicity and transparency makes it a landmark of postwar American architecture.
