A stop at 1825 Hill House on our latest CDG Team Project Tour.

New landscape elements are beginning to settle into the property, with stone steps, pathways, and structures defining the relationship between the home and the land.

Our project tours are a chance to see what other CDG team members have been working on beyond the office, put a place to the project names we hear every day, and appreciate the work our team has been doing firsthand.

More to come from 1825 Hill House!

Mountain Ski Home

09/30/2026

Welcome to the Ski Mountain House.

Designed for a family deeply rooted in downhill skiing, this home reflects an active, wellness-focused lifestyle and a strong connection to the outdoors.

The design is rooted in the idea of prospect and refuge, balancing expansive views with moments of shelter. Throughout the home, spaces shift between the two. Main living areas open toward the mountains, while more private spaces turn toward the quiet of the woods. A sculptural stair begins that journey at the entry, drawing you upward as the landscape gradually opens into view.

Natural materials, rich wood tones, playful pattern, color, and art bring the owners’ personality into the interiors, while thoughtful craftsmanship carries through every detail. A home shaped as much by its setting as by the way its owners live.

Much more to come from this special project.

There’s a lot that happens in the hours behind a photoshoot.

Chasing the right light, styling each space, shifting furniture, and making the smallest adjustments along the way. A little behind the scenes look at the time and care that goes into photographing a home.

A big thank you to Ryan Bent for spending the day behind the camera with us and for embracing our cabbage styling moment.

A campus shaped by art, history, and place.

Our work with Vermont Studio Center has grown over the last 14 years, building on the character of its historic campus in Johnson, Vermont, while looking toward its future.

From artist studios and residences to the spaces that connect them, each project begins with what’s already here: the buildings, the landscape, and the creative community that brings them to life.

This is just one part of an evolving campus story, and one we’re excited to continue sharing.

The next chapter of this historic farmhouse renovation came together as furnishings found their place in the newly transformed attic.

Once an underutilized space, this floor of the home has been thoughtfully reimagined as a comfortable retreat designed for gathering, play, and overnight guests.
We’re excited to share the first look!

What stands out most is that no two answers are the same, and that wasn’t even planned! Every stage of the design process has someone at CDG who enjoys it most. That balance is what makes our team so well-rounded.

Next week we’ll share the behind the scenes of how our responses truly weren’t planned.

What if the land leads the design?

Rather than clearing the site and starting anew, this landscape design embraces the existing topography. Large boulders, changes in grade, and natural pathways are thoughtfully integrated into the design, shaping how one moves through and experiences the home’s remarkable setting.

Stone steps weave between rock formations. Bridges carry you over the landscape. Plantings soften the transitions between architecture and land.

The result feels less placed on the land and more connected to it.
Which detail caught your eye first?
