🚨🐾 **IT’S OFFICIAL: ALL OF THE BORDER COLLIES HAVE BEEN RELINQUISHED TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE TREASURE COAST** 🐾🚨
❤️ But first, I want to give a HUGE shout-out to Tessa.
Tessa, you stayed persistent through YEARS of feeling helpless when you felt like no one was answering your calls for help every time you reported what was happening.
More than six years of “see something, say something” must have been absolutely grueling for you and the family. But you never stopped caring about these dogs, and your unwavering love for them helped get them where they are today.
I feel like Tessa and I have bonded since she contacted me on July 22 and started telling me what she knew about this home and its history.🤯
I am so sorry you felt ignored for so long.
I can't help but think about how much suffering—for both Paige and these animals—might have been prevented if meaningful intervention had happened sooner.
I’m also extremely saddened by information indicating that dogs were still being purchased by Paige as recently as 2022 and that puppies continued to be bred and sold within the last couple of years. It is difficult for me to understand how people purchasing dogs in 2024 could have been unaware of the conditions inside the home, although we also don't know exactly what each buyer personally saw or was allowed to see.
Just because someone is “a great breeder and wins prizes “ doesn’t mean they aren’t torturing animals behind closed doors . 😒
🐾 **NOW FOR THE UPDATE WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR:**
Paige O’Donnell and one of the co-owner (from a dog she bought in 1/2022) have officially relinquished ownership of ALL of the Border Collies currently in the care of the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. ❤️🐶
Many of you have been asking the same question:
“When will these dogs actually belong to the Humane Society?”
Today, we finally have that answer.
**THEY DO. 🙌❤️**
Animal Control removed **36 dogs on August 10**, and now these dogs can move forward under the care of the Humane Society without their previous owners retaining ownership over them.
The focus can now be on their continued medical care, recovery, rehabilitation and eventually determining what comes next for each individual dog.
These dogs have captured hearts throughout Martin County—and far beyond our community, with people around the country and even around the world following their story.
❤️ **WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?**
One of the questions I am still waiting to have answered is how many of the females are pregnant and when they are due.
Because these dogs were reportedly intact, those 36 dogs could potentially become a much larger number if pregnancies are confirmed and carried to term.
After everything these dogs have already endured, my personal hope is that the pregnant females get to have their litters and THEN they are fixed . I’m personally hoping that they don’t just get spayed before that time where their hormones will cause them to fall into depression if they are spayed now.
If puppies are ultimately born, at least they would enter this world somewhere clean and safe, surrounded by people providing proper veterinary care.
It is remarkable to think about any puppies that may previously have been born and survived inside the conditions authorities described at this property.
I also still have questions about reports or allegations concerning possible animal remains inside the home. I want to know whether investigators documented or recovered any remains, whether additional searching is planned, and whether any such evidence could become part of the criminal case.
🐾 **THESE DOGS WILL NEED SPECIAL PEOPLE.**
The dogs have exhibited **coprophagia and urophagia—consuming f***s and urine.**
These are behaviors developed while living in extreme or abnormal conditions and aren't necessarily going to disappear simply because the dogs are finally somewhere safe.
Their future adopters will need tremendous patience, an understanding of **positive-reinforcement training**, consistency and the willingness to work with the Humane Society and veterinary or behavioral professionals on each dog's individual needs.
That may mean frequent opportunities to go outside, immediately cleaning up after them, establishing predictable routines and understanding that progress may take time.
Most importantly, they need people with hearts full of love who understand that these dogs deserve the opportunity to experience the safe, healthy lives they should have had all along. ❤️
