This month's was the color BLUE! I chose to make this sea slug - Glaucus atlanticus. This little fellow in real life is only about an inch long, though mine is closer to 11. They are also known as "blue dragon" and many other names. The blue coloring is actually on the BOTTOM of the creature, who floats upside-down so that it can blend in from above and below, where the top of it's body is silver to look like the sky when viewed from the waters below.
These cool animals look fun, but pack a hardy punch with a venomous sting that is more powerful than that of the Man O' War. In fact, these sea slugs EAT THE Portuguese Man O' War, and they store the venom to use themselves.
They can be found off the coasts of South Africa, Australia, Mozambique, Central America and South Asia.
Hermaphroditic, they both lay eggs after mating. They also eat various other venomous sea creatures.
