Threads Remembered

Threads Remembered Custom quilts made with your favorite t-shirts I’d been saving the shirts for years. There was the cursing upside-down turtle. No.

There were the orchestra and tennis shirts from high school, the D.A.R.E. shirt from elementary, and the volleyball shirt from middle school. There was even the embroidered logo I’d cut from the polo shirt of my first work uniform. I’d started these t-shirt quilts a decade ago, and they were finally finished. I caught myself more than once just sitting and studying its pieces…remembering…smiling.

I wasn’t thinking about the shirt itself and wearing it. I thought about the people I was with during that part of my life. So many good memories were wrapped up in these blankets. Over the years, my shirts were stored in a bin, or a box or a repurposed toy chest; only seeing the light of day when another shirt was selected to join them in the waiting game. Honestly, they were taking up space. So when I finally hunkered down and stitched them up as one, I was so happy to reclaim the space they’d filled for years, but also excited to reminisce more often than once a year when I was placing another shirt on top of the pile. My t-shirt quilts now make regular appearances at family movie night where they’re cuddled not just by me, but by my husband and kids, who ask for the story behind “this one right here.” It hits me right in the feels every time. My hope with Threads Remembered is to not only help to reclaim space in your closet, or storage unit or repurposed toy chest, but to also put a frame around your memories so they’re easier to enjoy more often. I’d love to reimagine your memories into a T-shirt quilt. I’m sure it will drum up the same nostalgic joy in you that I feel when looking at my own quilts.
