The 7:30 am sunlight came in through one of our living room windows and across this painting-in-progress, Island Forest. It seemed just right for this piece, like a soft hallelujah 🌿

I started this art-from-my-heart at the beginning of a little “sabbatical” I am on from trying to crush it as “boss babe artist” and instead lean into being the season of life I am in with my family. My sister recently said I looked more serene, and I feel it 🤍

And truth be told, it felt SO good to work on something for *just* me, after a couple years of back-to-back commissions and collaborations (with the BEST people/brands, don’t regret it for a moment!).

Island Forest captures the peace I feel coming out on our front porch on Little Gasparilla Island at morning’s first light.

Sunlight floating in a magical current through sea grapes and red mangroves, while a gopher tortoise (ours perpetually named “Hogan”) munches on a flower snack.

It’s your love of the Florida islands made immortal.

And it has become my favorite art I’ve ever done.

And I still have about 25% left to go in completing it 😅

But like all good things in nature, it takes time, and with this sunlight turning my attention back in it’s direction, I’m thinking it will be hitting the easel again very soon for the last time 🫶🏼

PS) one of my dreams is to move towards doing mostly originals, large to medium scale, for private collectors to snag at drops and interior designers… !!!

PPS) thanks to my husband for taking baby girl on a walk so I can write this post while sipping my coffee 😂 little hands in a pink footie are now back inside and beckoning me to make breakfast, so as Anna says, “bye bye! 👋🏼

Goodness, wasn’t it just yesterday I was standing out on this beach with the tiniest little bump, dreaming of the day I’d share this girl’s future? 🥹

Back to Little Gasparilla Island with Miss Anna Charlotte (named after Charlotte County) Simonds, the 4th generation to call this spacial place home in our family. Her great grandfather and great Grammy are smiling down on us, I just know it.

This is also the first time we’ve been down where she is walking independently, and golly how amazing it is to see her explore the island in her own way!

Shells! Birds! Shoe! Bird! Bunny! Bird!(!!)

She really likes birds 🙂

Florida girl, and girl mom, summer loading ☀️

I sit here typing this, back home in Winter Haven from our little trip to Hernando Beach and watching my nearly 15 month old daughter oscillate between putting orange soccer field markers on her head (“hat!” she says!), climbing on the dog (“let’s not bother Otis!”) and trying to take my seltzer water (“where’s your water, lovebug?”).

And with my last post 3+ weeks ago, let’s have a chat, shall we?

This season is the best season 🤍 a Florida girl summer with our little girl, where her world seemingly expands daily with new words, expressions …. and opinions 😅

Her new favorite thing is to shout and point “bird!” which of course fills me with SO much pride 😆

I get into the studio two days a week when I have help with Anna, and that is SUCH a blessing. I am (still 😆) working on the massive 3ft x 4ft island forest piece, and a commission for a local citrus family’s sweet daughter on the way (rosie and red mangrove themed!).

A trip to Little Gasparilla Island this weekend, and then a day trip to St Pete to pick up quite a few canvas reproductions of my art - a few for collectors, a few to offer to you! - and restocking stationery that is sold out 🫶🏻

It’s easy to look around on this app and wonder “am I doing enough?”

But then my little squishy babe calls me over to read another book, and I know, this is absolutely enough ❤️
